@SPF Required. two updates.
1. not counting my '67 imperials (Budd discs, no magnums just original steelies), and not counting my '66 300 that runs '73 calipers with magnums, and not counting '65's (all drums, with magnums), and not counting '67-'68 police (Budd discs, steelies), i have one '67 300 with discs/no magnums currently/no plans to use.
2. I only have Wheel Vintique Magnums, all 15x8, all 4.0 backspacing. i have no factory Magnums. i have no 15x7 Magnums.
3. the verdict. we tried the Magnums with the '67 Budds and ... viola. They
HIT the Budd caliper. Eyeballing, a minimum 1/2 spacer would be needed to be sure (then Id have to be mindful of tire-rub issues with 245/60's I like). more clearance is needed between the hub face and the wheel so, as people have observed, bksp. would not appear to make any difference.
i conclude, now with my own experience, what everybody knows. you cant just throw any ol wheel, aftermarket or otherwise, over a Budd caliper. Shame on Magnums . I like that wheel and
would not hesitate to go with properly fitted billet spacers in front to make it work.
It also has me thinking about how to better manage my Budd disc "fleet" -- honestly haven't given it enough thought/identified replacement part sources & strategies.
