Just started a frame up restoration ok a 69 300 convertible.
Just wondering if this is the right place to get questions answered.

I am getting close to the rebuild and wondered if there is a general opinion on suspension. My plan is to stay original and stay with drum brakes.

Performance suspension bushings are usually too harsh for my taste. But a larger front sway bar with addition of a complementary rear sway bar will make the ride more steady and cornering more confident and sure. As for drum brakes, one of the best changes you will ever make to that car will be the addition of disc brakes. The drum brakes fade really fast from just one fast stop from 70 mph. That is the first change I made to my 70 300, and the best change.

How will making the sway bar adjustments and disk brakes affect the resale value. Trying to keep the car as original as I can. My father in law purchased the car new in Detroit in 69! No plan to sell the car.
 
These sorts of improvements do not hurt the value at all.
 
drum brakes suck. they stop by appointment. see the thread "crowbar stuck under brake pedal." for the rear springs i took the main leafs out of another set, cut the ends off and added them into the spring packs on the car. makes a double main leaf. got the car to sit right and firmed the rear suspension. also welded in frame connectors from the sub frame to the torque boxes. 2 in x 4 in box steel. no cowl shake. zero. can open AND close both doors with the car on the lift. if you've never driven one these cars you're in for a treat. best full size convertible ever. well worth the investment. best of luck with it, SG
 
Welcome aboard. Pics are always appreciated here. I've left drum brakes on both my cars and they work fine. Just give them plenty of respect since they obviously don't stop as well as modern disc systems.

We would love to see some pic's. There are several 69 & 70 300 convertibles in the membership here, including my 69.
You've come to the right place for guidance with your project.
I went through mine about 3 years ago and have driven it 20K since. Best road car I've ever had. I highly recommend front disc brakes if you plan on driving it. Brake fade is terrible with the drums. And you can't hurt the value if you don't plan on selling.

One of the great things about C bodys is that subtle upgrades don't effect value as the cars are already undervalued.

I've been driving this drum brake car for 11 years, never a problem. I agree with Fred,
 
I have a '70 'vert, originally a drum brake car. I converted it to disks and am very glad I did. My decision was aided by me almost redecorating a car in front of me during a panic stop. I'd do it again if I were to buy another such car.

I agree with the sentiment that says originality on these cars is not that big of a deal. We wouldn't be able to buy one for under ten grand if it were.
 
If the car is original, untouched and in very nice shape in my opinion should be left alone and kept original. I have had to slam the brakes also, who hasnt. The car stops well. I also have two disc brake cars of the same vintage, not all that much different in braking, obviously some but minimal.
