Vintage MOPAR Funny Cars

Joe Pisano's Plymouth Arrow. Joe would go own & design & build his own aluminum Hemi engines named JP1. Sold quite a few & became a thorn in Keith Blacks side. Don Garlits used them some. Joe passed away about 10 years ago at the race track. Sad day indeed. His family still has the engine business going.

WOW !!! C Body Bob I am in total amazement of your pic collection and your drag racing history knowledge. I'll try and keep this as short as possible. lol So when I was in high school I worked at a local auto repair shop in Texas City, Tx. The guy that owned the place wrenched all his life and had a bunch of old cars he restored as he had time. I worked half a day after school, I walk in to work one day and ole Milton has a 66 Barracuda funny car sitting in the shop with the body up. It was Orange for the most part and had "Tijuana Taxi" on the side done in the gold leaf of the day, had a blown iron bock 426 hemi in it. The shop is still there and has a bunch of old cars all the way around it, haven't seen it open in may years.
I'm going to have to go by there now and find out if he is still alive and who owns the place.
Ohh...It was 35yrs ago when I worked there but who knows.

Yes there was a Tijuna Taxi funny car. However the 4 door Maverick 351 Cleveland Pro Stock car of Jack Roush & Wayne Gapp is humorously refered to as the Tijunia Taxi. I'll see if I can find some pics if it.

Here it is taken in 1975. Jack Roush (NASCAR) and driver Wayne Gapp used a small block Ford 4 door Maverick to skirt around the weight breaks that where running rampart in those days. This car won the NHRA Pro Stock championship that year
