Hello -

This car is for sale not too far from me. I need another car like I need a hole in the head, but I kinda like this one. Asking price is $13K. Here's the description:

A very rare early Mopar muscle car. This is still one of the top 50 fastest production vehicles from the 60s. This car comes with its 100% original matching numbers drivetrain. The 426 street wedge engine runs great. The factory 4 speed shifts like butter. I've done some talking to people and this looks as if this is one of 40 cars made. The body is pretty nice and straight. Only needs minor patching on the drivers side quarter and pass front fender bottom. All the interior is there except the door panels, which are available reproduction. Needs a little cowl work and repair around the Dutchman panel. This is a factory console bucket seat car with tachometer. All the trim but one piece is there and in good shape. The floor pans have been replaced. A very nice job with rust free factory pans. This car only has 73k on the clock. I believe it's original mileage. This was one step below a Max wedge car. It has the fender tag as well proving the authenticity of it.

Opinions on the asking price?

What is a "Dutchman panel"?

Thanks....

Chris

Its a fair price but only if you're willing to do a $75k full restoration on it.
Anything less than a full restoration by the new owner will make it worse.
That thing is not a toy. It is a genuine collectable.
The Dutchman panel is the metal section at the bottom of the rear window.

That price seems a bit high to me but is a starting point. Sounds like the owner would be negotiable. As for "numbers matching", for 1964 you will only find cast or stamped part numbers (and a few date codes) on the various parts. You won't find the VIN on the engine or transmission, as they didn't start doing that until '68. It'll be a fine car after someone spends the big bucks restoring it. Even without restoration, it would be a hoot to go cruising around the neighborhood in.

That car was for sale 2-3 years ago for $6500,-

That car would be hard not to like... I couldnt give it a fair price assessment though. 6500 beats 13k all day long, dont it? Well, unless your the seller that is.

I'm giving the car above a higher value than most here onky because Ive had a hardon for these from the first time I saw one as a kid.

I saw it shut down car after car one night of street racing.

This is a 330 post-car max wedge , can,t compare it with a polara 500 426 street wedge

This was mine a few years ago , payd 12K for it.
Very solid car from Oregon.

I had a chance to buy a '65 Fury with the same motor and trans: $9,200. Car was beautiful. That was in 2003. That same car could not be touched today for less than 20. The one for sale here looks unmolested, although in need of work. 13? Not a bad price to me.

Still kicking myself for not buying that Plymouth, nor the '65 L 4-speed for 7 grand I looked at four years before that!

69 Monaco - Do you recall where it was for sale?? On this board or Craig's List? Having the ad in hand, or at least knowing about it would be a bargaining chip for sure.

My approach to a car like this would be to go through it, fix everything that needs to be fixed, redo the interior, patch any holes (well, like with welded in shaped panels), and drive it.

If I ever decided to take it to the next level, it would be a complete body strip (chrome, pull the engine/tranny, remove the nose, most of the interior), and get a very nice paint job. Then, scrape and detail the underside, and maybe detail the dash. I would leave everything original, or restore it to original condition where necessary. I HATE it when someone takes a rare muscle car and makes it into a "pro touring" car, or, God Forbid, a "rat rod".

My experience has been that if anyone puts $75K into a restoration, you're 1) afraid to drive it and 2) never/rarely going to get your money back.

I'm going to take a trip to see it and try to get a feel for how negotiable the seller is.

I guess you had to be coming of age at that time to really appreciate these cars over the later Hemis.

Haha yes.....
First i didn,t like the early B body,s but for the second time in the U.S i visit the M.A.T.S ( Mopars at the strip ) and i was sold!!!
Visit Bob Mosher,s place 2 times..great guy!!
At this moment i,m a big 69 polara/Monaco fan , early B,s and hope to buy a sport fury GT some time.
I don,t have a early post-car but a nice 63 sport fury hrdtp

Chris , it was for sale not that far from were it,s now ( yes on Craigslist ), it was for sale for 7500,- and he would let it go for 6,5 at a point but there was to much rust and work( for me )....sorry i don,t have the pix anymore , at that moment the black one was for sale in Portland so i bought that one.
The turquoise one was sold and later they were asking 11,500,- for it .
I have seen it later again and again on Craigslist for between 8,5 - 12,5K.
If you want it i think you will get it for 8,5K.

If I was a player on this I think 8500 is a nice price... if it lives up to the description.
