Wasn't this car one of Chrysler's deadly sins when it came to quality control?

Hose in background.

As a rule these weren't very good cars IMO. But I murdered what may have been one of the better ones in 86. It was silver with a subtle strip RR package. 360 factory big holley 2bbl auto. Loaded black Bucket/console interior with a/c and steel sunroof. IDK the gears, but they were low and she wound out early on the interstate... made her a great around town performer. I owned a few of these and the RR had better sway bars... not sure if there was anything else different... but she cornered much better than any other I aspen/volare I drove. Totally destroyed her... you would think twice today about the frame damage I caused. If her twin ever came up at a price I could stomach... I would have to try. BTW $20k is not a price I could do anything but shake my head over... WTF really?

NO F-body is worth that coin, except perhaps a Super Coupe in pristine, original condition. This car needs to lose the damn trailer wheels, braided lines, and all the '90s "hot rod" crap. THEN, it might be a $5K car.

The '76 and '77 cars were horrible rust buckets! Corrosion control was zero. Oklahoma is pretty rust-free, but I've seen plenty of rusty Oklahoma F-bodies over the years. The '79 and '80 models had the rust issues sorted out, but the cars had gained such a notorious reputation by then, sales would not recoup the losses of the line, and out they went. The very closely-related M-bodies (Fifth Ave/Gran Fury/Diplomat) weathered that storm and carried on through the 1988 model year.

There were recalls on the first year(s) for rust outs in the front fenders.

It wasn't unusual to see a Volare or Asspain driving around with a slightly mismatch paint on the front fenders. The recall didn't allow for good paint matching.

My 76RR at ten years old had just been given a plate repair on the hat channel part of the floor frame and a new inner fender, but my outer sheet metal was clean. Also had a 77 wagon that was a total rust heap and a 78 coupe that was a huge disappointment after the better sway bars on the RR. The 78 was actually very clean, but I hated its handling and nothing was worn... cashed out of that one after 6 months or so.

I got a 77 Roadrunner when i bought my Duster so i gave it to my friend, been sitting for 25 years but the floors, Rockers, frame rails are are really Solid. The Doors, Fenders, hood, trunk, Are all trash but still remarkable most of it survived so long outside.

Its crazy how differently they dissolve... especially in similar environments. Seemed like every car of a certain model would rust in the same spot, and then one for what ever reason didn't.

I owned a '77 Aspen...slant six, three on the floor.

Compared to the previous generation Duster/Dart/Demon....it was totally crap.

At least as far as the rust went. And the drive train was weak too.

I think the V8s were better built and seem to have survived. Also, I think the last years...especially...had much improved corrosion protection.

Iaccoco apologized for the things....right before he dumped them for the K cars.

One point that has not be made yet - that car is not legal for sale in the State of California! He's taken all of the pollution controls off. It's a '76: they must be on for California registration! That's probably why he's selling it as he will not be able to legally keep it registered here. They have Smog Check II in San Francisco: it will not pass.

I was talking to a guy who has to get rid of his pontiac ventura for the smog issues too. Shame, its only one year off from being smog exempt too. Really anything built before 1980 should be exempt but what are you gonna do.

I would prefer the law to be the way it was originally planned: a 30-year roll-off. When a car was 30 years old it was to roll off the list. But some politicians got greedy and started to complain about the loss of revenue; the Law became the current 1976 and up.

It's ridiculous! I had a car fail because the check engine light didn't work, yet the measured levels were at the minimum or lower. Pissed me off!! I think it should be tailpipe emissions only, then open the hood if those fail. I had to put the lean-burn crap back on my Cordoba every two years. Hated it!

Two places I can't fir the life of me cannot figure out why people actually choose to live there,

I know what you mean it's crazy. Wisconsin is alright but the salt in the winter is pretty classic unfriendly. That and if you lose your car's title and you want to get it titled your pretty much up **** creek. And your car pretty much ceases to be a car in the eyes of the law. Montana has some pretty good laws about that though. If you want to title your car all you need to do is have a bill of sale and the vehicle has to not be stolen. Or something like that.

I'd take Oregon over CA if I had to move to the west coast

Isn't that a professional hazard? Whenever they sent you guys somewhere to "work" it was pretty much guaranteed to be f-ed up.
