Opinion from the Formal Best & Brightest - Antenna

Recently repaired the one in a 96 toyota 4 runner, it had a bad plastic strip in it. Was a half an hour job start to finish, maybe something new can be adapted, Necessity is the mother of invention.

I think the best solution is to find a ½ decent one and go through it thoroughly first and then do an R&R in one fell swoop.

C body Bob, got one?

Stan.. I found JC Restoration in WA state. (425) 672-8324, www.jcauto.com. They restored my Power Window Gang switches on my 75 NYB. Fantastic job, prices scared me a bit, But "You get what you pay for" I always say. Give Jeff / Owner a call. I spoke to him about my Antenna as well. the Antenna motor works, you can hear it when you push the switch up, but the mast doesn't move. I thought his price was reasonable. Just a thought.

My '78 New Yorker Coupe antenna has not worker for years. Its a combo radio/CB antenna that manually is raised and lowered as needed.

My 78 NYB had the am/fm/cb with an automatic power antenna. Turn the radio on the antenna went up, turn the radio off the antenna went down. No antenna switch on my car.

I changed everything and put the power antenna and switch in. I'll show a picture in a second.

Stan,

Mr. C gave me the power antenna I have in my car now. I had to cut a hole in the dash to mount the antenna switch. I would without a doubt put another used antenna in if I had to. I wouldn't spend $300 on an antenna. I also upgraded the speakers and put the muti-colors radio in it and chuckle every time I'm driving at night and see the colors automatically changing. I listen to the IPOD with a remote.

I knew that 3000 plus Color Radio would come into Play. :p

While I'm chuckling.....I can just imagine Stan taking a ball peen to the radio as we roll down the road. LOL!

Back to the issue at hand... any good news on the antenna?

Zilch. Nada. If I sell the steering wheel, I'll buy the NOS antenna.
If it doesn't sell, I'll go to the second hand store and buy Slim Whitman CD's for 25¢ each.

I second using Jeff Carter to fix your current antenna. He has been an invaluable resource for anything electric with the Chrysler 300 Club for decades. He will do it right. Some of my older cars have electroluminscent panel lighting, and he even fixes those to like new. And the nicest guy you will find - very willing to help. Give him a call and talk about it. I picture him like Paul, the one restoring Derek's Sport Fury GT. And I expect it would cost much less than that NOS one that probably won't last long.

Steve, here is my problem. To pull the power antenna on these cars requires removing the inner fender, removing the fasteners to pull away the outer fender, and jamming a 2x4 (seriously, no joke) in there to get access to the antenna.
A nightmarish thought considering it's recent paint job.
To do this would require tying up the car while the antenna is sent out.
I would do this if I had an extra to send out but between buying a used one and having it restored, I'm pretty much in the ballpark for that NOS unit.
