Max Tire Width For 1969 300

Looking for info on the max width on a rear tire for a 1969 300 hardtop. Would a 255 MT ST street tire work on the rear? Size 255/60/15. Looking for a wider tire on the rear vs the front and want to make sure before I buy.

That is the size of tire I'm putting on my '68. It has lots of clearance. I don't know how much room is in your wheel wells since you have a completely different body design.

Was asking same thing at Finnish forum. Got info that for 1969 2d HT Newport
295/50/15 10" 5.5 backspace would fit rear. rear should have 5-6mm to leaf springs and fender is really close, with 6 people on board and lots items at trunk, it may touch fender lip at curve. Little rolling on lip and it shouldnt touch.
255/60/15 8" should fit front.
Disclaimer, i havent test or seen this combo myself. But no reason to believe that people would lie

Thanks guys! Moparts suggested a few guys running 275/60/15 fronts and able to run a 295/50/15 rear so I would think that we should be good with things smaller.

I have used 255 60 15 on 15x7 police car wheels on a 66 Chrysler wagon with no problems at all. Hope that helps.
