Gates Power Steering Pressure Line

I recently purchased a Larens power steering pump and a Gates pressure line from classicpartsdiscount.com. The pressure hose doesn't have the 180 bend like my old one. The new hose looks like it may work but it is a bit shorter than the old one. I assume the engineers at Chrysler designed the original hose that way for a reason (prevent cavitation?) but I could be wrong. I've included pictures of the old hose and new. Has anyone used this replacement hose and had problems/success?

At a wild guess, maybe the upper loop was put in as a vacuum breaker to help limit drain down of the fluid?? Only thing that comes to mind at the moment, not something I'd ever thought about.

I used the same looking replacement hose and its OK over here.
