The Bluesmobile

Congrats on the small successes

Maybe take a break like Stan suggested even if a day / little one. Think about the little victories and the finished result and then get back at it :)

My mother always told me "You can eat an elephant if you hungry enough, you'll just have to do it one bit at a time" thanks Mom. Agreed, take a break if you get TOO frustrated. Them keep on keeping on I say. You can't finish if you never start. No charge for the philosophy. Lol

Hey Zach, it has arrived. Thank you.

Just about wrapped up with the front end. Need to find some t bar adjusters to finish her off.

I had the cover on the steering coupler, but had to smack on it to get the coupler on the gear, and it popped back off. Have to order one of those springs for it.

Installed the new to the car cop car T bars today, that I've had for years. They are a bit bigger then the original bars. I'm on the fence about the firm feel sway bar. Still like to get it, but tempted to clean, and reinstall the old bar for now ($$$).

Ordered some NOS adjusters from classic auto supply. They showed up today, and got em installed.

Then the real fun! Got the beast installed! Had to widen the new holes I drilled a little. Shes a little crooked at the moment. All the bolts are finger tight till the trans gets installed. Felt good dropping it in! Waited 3 years to do that lol

What were the holes for you had to widen, Zac.

The new motor mount holes drilled in the perches of the frame (can see it back on page 31).

Had to cut one of the ears off the mount, and drill holes lower down to accommodate the big block in the small block stub (per the shumacker instructions)

The brake booster seems pretty close to the engine. Hoping my mopar finned valve covers will fit.

Also the engine doesn't seem as high as I thought it would have. I might have been able to run an eddy rpm intake like I wanted too.. But not opening that back up lol

Not a whole lot going on lately.. Waiting for enough funds to rebuild the trans.

Thinking of a performance rebuild kit, with the red clutches. Also wanna install a shift kit, and possibly a billet reverse servo. Been through a couple servos before in the old newport.

Thinking of going through cope racing trans mission for the parts. Anyone use them before? I gotta get with them, or somebody else on a good convertor as well.

I did some horse trading, and got a new set of exterior door handles. Two nice used ones, one a bit weathered, and a pretty NOS one. Even the weathered one is a bit nicer then the originals. They are heavily pitted. Should go well with the NOS mirrors I got from Mr C. Gonna look a little out of place on the blumo though lol.

I tried instlling the spring for the steering coupler cap. Ofcoarse formals have to be different then the other cars! This coupler seems a bit longer for this spring to work on it. Figure once I get some more gas for the welder, I'm just gonna tack it on.

Currently trying to install the remainder of the fuel lines. Not real impressed with the front half of them. Can't seem to get the main line on correctly. I got the vent/return line on, but its a little too long. Its bent out a bit by the firewall in order to work. But it is on. Might make up a new line for the main, or just go rubber... Its only gotta go a foot, and a half or so from the line coming from the tank.

I look on my car where the fuel lines from the tank dissappear to inside the dark, mysterious, black voids of the frame, and say to myself, "HowTF am I going to replace that if they go..."

Try to run as much steel fuel line as you can. Use the rubber for connections.

I want to, and I'm trying. They are just fighting me. lol try again later. Its hard sneaking the pre bent line through the frame.

Thats how mine was set up originally. Apparently '74s were different. These run up the whole lengh of the rocker, and the front line goes up over the frame right behind the wheel well.

My buddy on the blumo board supplied inline tube with the fuel lines off his 74 for them to replicate. And he says thats the way they were on the car originally... Idk...

I want the steel lines, but don't think rubber would hurt that little bit. The whole line was rubber for years when the original lines rotted out long ago...

I know.. lol

Hello. Good job with the repro. I thought that the original Bluesmobile was a '74? Did you install a 440 cubic inch plant?

Not much going on. Been ordering parts for the trans, and they have been slowly coming in.

I drug this nasty thing out, and found an old 727 hiding under there.

This is the old 727 out of the Cordoba. It was rebuilt 11 years or so ago, with not many miles on it. It worked flawlessly. However leaked like a mo fo. All the seals were dried up.

Today, I ripped the valve body out, and replaced the shift shaft seal. Also pulles the front pump off, and apart, amd installed new bushing, seal, O ring, amd gasket.

Hopefully no more leaks! Need to order a couple other things, and she should be going in soon!

Cool, just wondering if I had it wrong. Good luck with the project. I got my '66 Fury I 28 days ago. I'm very happy and excited to own a classic car again after a very long 15 year drought. Have fun!

Been tinkering with the old girl here, and there. I stripped, and painted the old sway bar, and ordered some new hardware. Got it re installed. Also stripped, and painted a couple other small bits, and installed that got missed before.

Also pulled out the 440 brackets, and got them cleaned, and painted. Waiting to go on.

I had to wait 2 weeks for the new torque convertor. I ordered one that ended up being the wrong one. Returned it, and finally got the correct one.

With the correct convertor, finally got the trans installed! Been having to make a few things work, but alls good so far. The old driveshaft should work! The yoke sticks out a little more from the trans then before. Also need to get a conversion u joint for the rear, as its wider. The small block trany dipstick should work too. I need to bend the bracket that attaches the tube to the top of the bellhousing to work with the big block.

The starter is in, as well as the convertor dust shield. The engine is sitting much better now.

I've noticed a few hiccups under the hood.. The last month or so my elctronic boxes have been melting, and leaving a mess.. Thank you FL heat. Anyone know what these boxes are?

Also noticed now with everything mounted ofcoarse! That the oil dipstick might be a pain.. The hole is behind the driver side engine mount. Theres no notch in the mount for the tube..
