Hey guys. I need a new dizzy and I would like to stay with points on my 440. Two lobes are worn down and I figure I would get another. I know they are out there and some really cheap,,almost too cheap. Also I have heard the advance curves are very aggressive with some of these. I don't know if that is a problem with my lower compression 440. Anyways I would like to know which brands you have used with good results. Not looking to go to electronic ignition at this time. Staying old school! Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Big John. I think I also may have slop in the bushings too in the housing and was thinking of getting a whole new unit. I will look further into what you posted.

New point distributors are a thing of the past. Ebay or good used are about your only options.

I actually have bought have bought a couple of them to put on the shelf. They may be supposedly rebuilt but the point rubbing block is still original and will show wear. Save your effort and switch to electronic ignition and don't look back. Check out Performance Distributor, there Tri power distributor. Good stuff.

As long as you can still get the gap/dwell adjustment and no side to side wobble, some wear on the peaks should not be a problem.

Well I am going on the advice of the person that checked the whole car over for me. He said the dwell angle on 2 cylinders is off as two lobes are very worn. Bushings are abit worn too.
Thanks for all the info guys. I was thinking Pertronix too but if I can keep the points I will.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

How much was it Traintech? And what brand?

Probably better off getting a different one since worn irregular.

I got mine 5 years ago so the price would be different. I checked this morning and the one for my 383 is still available, remanufactured by Cardone, # 30-3817, price $37.99 before tax.

Thank you traintech for that ,,I do appreciate your time and will check into this.

Going to order one up today

Thanks Wolf for that. I ordered mine at AutoZone for 37 bucks. Should be in in a few days. Amazing the price range different outlets charge,,,,
