Big Blue, the 67 Crown Coupe - Managing Director Edition

Well, i was referring to my Aussie Ford as it's a muscle car so I kept/keep everything to prove it's being/been properly cared for should I sell it.

Cost doesn't matter if you're happy with it.

Happy Motoring

Man, this is getting to be more of a medical blog than a car story. So, I've been home from the hospital for over a month and can now limp around, slowly. Very pathetic compared to my condition before the leg went bad. My goal is to get back in my garage next week and resume the project. Fingers crossed.

Question: What's the best way to organize the car's documentation? One of those big scrapbook binders with clear sleeves?
I'm glad your doing better and sorry the recovery is taking so long. It's downright scary that something like that could hit a person out of the blue.

Thanks again for the sympathy, gents. Trust me, I'll get this Imp finished even if I have to make my son do it.

So, finally, I hobbled into my garage and got the new dipstick and tube installed. The interference fit is tight -- took repeated sanding to get it the right diameter. Then, I figured, what the hell, the Imp hadn't been started and driven in over 2 months. Surprise; she started up after less than 10 seconds of cranking and ran like a charm. I got to use the heater for the first time since it was chilly this AM. Man, that heater is overkill for California. Designed for Siberia, I guess.

Whoever rebuilt my Imp's motor years ago departed from the factory configuration a bit: slightly lumpier cam and free-flow single exhaust. So, performance is great, gas mileage around town is 9-10 MPG, highway 14-15 MPG, which is all fine. My issue with it is the sound; more appropriate for a Sport Fury or Roadrunner than a luxo-barge. I'm hesitating to modify the exhaust with another muffler because I've never had good results on other cars and bikes changing exhaust back pressure without also changing the intake side. On the other hand, the 440 is so big and lazy that maybe it won't matter. Anybody have some experience with this?

When it came to replacing the exhaust on my 440 NYB, I purposely stayed with a single pipe. I did upsize it 2-1/2" and chose a muffler that was rated close to OEM quiet but more free flowing. I nailed it. Love it. Quiet. And don't ask me what muffler it was because I forget. Made in Canada. All I remember.

Likely Motivair...they make lots of aftermarket mufflers

Loud and proud here! For now...

Last night, my leg got really bad and I had to go to the ER. Now, I'm back in the hospital for the same problem I had before: some kind of muscle infection. I guess the original problem was not fixed completely last time. This is getting really tiresome and more importantly, interferes with my car hobby. I'll never get the Imp done at this rate.

Damn Dave, sorry to hear that. It must be really frustrating. Hang in there, the car will be there when you shake this thing.

Thanks, Matt. I know you're right. It is frustrating to have a project interrupted and delayed over and over.

Try to put up with it as best you can... Damn you are having bad luck with that leg. I hope they find something that works soon.
