I think it's just leaking at the base. The A/C shop owner lives across the street. They're pretty well respected as a good auto A/C shop. I'll have to ask why he didn't recommend a new gasket.

Do you have a recommended vendor for rebuilt or NOS A/C compressor or evaporator for a 77 New Yorker Brougham w/ a 440? Mine leaks. The compressor needs to look original. I see lots of negative comments online about the Murray, Four Seasons & Driveworks rebuilt compressors sold at the auto...

Ensure that the R134A includes dye, or add it, otherwise you won't see the leak.
