215/75-14 tires on a 1967 Chrysler Newport Custom

IMHO, this is the "right" size for a stock look: Here's the size and brand: hankook optimo 225/70r14 - Yahoo Search Results Yahoo Search Results I didn't search for white walls, so don't know if they're still available. Mine are 10 years old now, still ride, handle, and look great. Hope...

    Steering box is leaking

Correct, if the valve is not "centered" the fluid flow will force the steering action right or left depending on which way the valve is off center. Think of a garden hose with a "Y" valve on the end. Turn on only one side and the hose wants to wander one way. Turn on both sides and it will more...

    Steering box is leaking

Blind speculation based upon previous experience would be the quad rings inside the control valve are shot. Quad rings are O-rings with an "X" profile when bisected. Don't waste time replacing them with standard O-rings, it will leak worse. Really, your first step should be to thoroughly clean...

    E-brake hanging up

Sounds like you've got it narrowed down. A couple of other things to think about: 1. The '67 FSM refers to the equalizer bracket when replacing the rear cables. The last thing stated is: Note different size slot for corresponding cable end fitting. The fact that the old cable did the same...

Somewhere in his previous posts, furyfever confirmed that it happens with or without the drum installed. John

Tallhair's New Hides for the Durango Thread - Opinions sought and welcome

My input is probably outdated, but: I had a Ramcharger and a Bronco years ago. The 31x10.5's just looked right on both of them. Anything else looked small like you said. I had a couple of Super Duty pick ups, one with Michelin Scorpions, they were total junk. Didn't wear well at all, rode...

    E-brake hanging up

I wouldn't panic too much about the Ford parts. A lot of common service parts were/are shared among manufacturers. The brass float for the fuel sending unit in a '67 Newport is the same as an '89 Crown Vic wagon. Here's a pic of the '67 Chrysler FSM: It looks to me like you have the...

    E-brake hanging up

furyfever, check this against the service manual to be sure everything is correctly located. Or at least check the other side for comparison. Your description of the shoe actuation sounds correct. The E-brake arm pivots on the rear shoe at the top, so there's no actuating force there. To...

    E-brake hanging up

Blind speculation here: Does it happen both with the drum on and off? Sticking with the drum off will eliminate the drum as an issue. Does the backing plate have any dings/dents that could be catching the drum or shoes? Have you tried swapping the rear drums? Maybe recruit a helper to...

    E-brake hanging up

I would also suggest that you replace all of the cables. With all of the other brake work that you've done, it would be wise to replace them, bleed everything thoroughly, and then just drive. I found them at Napa about 7 years ago. This is a good place for brake parts: Brake Lines - Inline...

Suggestions: 15" Magnum 500's for 68 Fury III

Just to clarify, double check that the center hub (not the center trim cap) of the new wheels will fit the rear axle flange. If you can't determine this for certain for Ford or AMC, then I would stick with Mopar only wheels. Hope the input helps. John

Suggestions: 15" Magnum 500's for 68 Fury III

In general, the center hub diameter on Ford wheels is too small to fit the flange on a Mopar rear axle. Something to double check before you commit to a Ford wheel. I have no direct knowledge of "modern" Magnum wheels. Magnums with white stripes look awesome on any slabsider, IMHO. Cragar...

    Steering Box - Help!

The FSM has pretty good guidance on how to "center" the valve assembly. With the wheels centered, the steering wheel should remain still upon start up. If the car self steers at all, loosen the bolts on the valve and tap it one way or the other depending on how the self steering is. There are...

    Rebuild the brake booster

FWIW, I got replacement parts for the booster her: Harmon Classic Brakes I scanned their website and then called them. Very pleasant and helpful. They sold me what I needed vs. an entire rebuild kit. Hope the input helps. John

    Bumper jacks

FWIW, my '89 and'90 Crown Vic wagons have bumper jacks. I had a '91 Crown Vic sedan that had a bumper jack as well. I think they went to a sill/frame jack when they redesigned the whole body and the bumpers went to plastic in '92.
