1970 Fury HP Exhaust Manifolds Burn Valve Cover Paint

my 78 440 powered truck came from the factory with those exhaust manifold gaskets that protect the valve cover gasket. When I built my 70 Challenger six pack car I added one of those gaskets on the right side of that engine because the manifold is real close on the right bank but no so much on...

Valve cover smoke after switching to synthetic oil

I agree on leaving the oil alone and replacing the valve cover gaskets. I use the better grade neoprene gaskets. I clean the head lip and valve covers real good. (make sure the mounting surface around the holes is flat) My personal way of installing is to smear a thin layer of black High temp...

Crank no start? Compressor pulley seized?

Have you given any thought to your problem being fuel related? If my car would start and idle for a short time then stumble, the first thing I would wonder about is the fuel filter or sock in the tank being clogged up with rust or gunk. It sounds like you have taken care of your AC compressor...

727 trans pan gasket that doesn't leak??

I agree.......This is my method almost to a tee. I put a thin coat of the black sealer on both sides of the cork gasket. Make sure the pan is flat and straight and no oil residue on either surface. I then install the pan and bolts. I snug the bolts enough to make contact and leave it over night...

    carburetor for 1978

IMO, There is no better carb than a properly tuned Thermoquad. My 78 440 powered truck ran the same TQ for over 500K and is still on it doing it's job. I replaced it with a Holley once when it was off for rebuild. I couldn't wait to get that TQ back.

    Axle info needed

They are 30" long. Same as all C body Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler 65-69. Both the same except for the right side axle has the adjuster for end play. Right side has the 5 studs with right hand threads while the left side has 5 left hand threads. I can get pictures if needed. They have been in my...

Idle gets slower and slower . . .

My first thought was fuel filter or sock in the tank mostly plugged up.

    question on water pump housing

You will have to remove those 10 bolts from the timing cover. I would be surprised if they are not easily removed. I would be sure to get a new gasket and crank shaft seal also as long as you have it apart. Not a bad job at all as long as you pay attention to detail such as lining up punch...

    question on water pump housing

Big block? Small Block? Either one I would say the pump housing needs to come off. Not difficult at all once the accessories bolted on with the housing bolts are off. IMO, you need to invest in a shop manual for your car in the very least.

    '65 727 Trans Leak

It has been a long time since I swapped a transmission in my 65 Sport Fury but I know I didn't touch the torsion bars. Here is a pic of a spare cross member I have. The blue arrows point to the bolt holes. I think if you put a jack under the tail shaft, remove those four bolts and drop the cross...

    1967 RB 440 - TDC finding issue

You said you want to do it right. If someone replace the timing chain, they could have messed with the distributor gear also. The first order of business should be to find top dead center on #1 cylinder. Then pull the distributor and verify the slot in the distributor drive is parallel with the...

    Carburetor for 1966 383

I'm betting on the high resistance at the ECU. Did you check it?

    Carburetor for 1966 383

It does sound ignition related. Have you swapped out the points for an electronic ignition. If so, your problem could be a bad ground on the ECU. It has happened to a lot of people (me included) When I first upgraded my Sport Fury to the electronic ignition I had the same issue. The coil and...

    Carburetor for 1966 383

If you can drive for 20 miles before it starts acting up, I would look at the fuel sock in the tank. Do you have an inline filter after the pump? If so, replace it and cut the old one open to see how much rust and junk is in it. If it is clogged up, you are gonna have to deal with the tank. 50+...

1977 Mopar V-8: Did ALL 1977's have LEAN BURN, or just the ones with 4bbl carbs?

I have no idea what all constituted the lean burn system or why certain cars got it while others didn't. I bought a new Charger SE in 76. It came with a 360 2bbl lean burn system. I don't recall having any trouble with it. I didn't drive it much as it was my wife's daily. I do remember it...

    8-10 mpg

8-10 mpg is very low for your car with a 383 2 bbl. As was mentioned, in post 6, I would suspect your Vacuum advance is dead in the water. My 65 Sport Fury with a 4bbl knocks down 15 avg and weighs in as much as your Newport. I would find an old school mechanic that knows how to tune it and has...
