Need advice for improving brake performance on my 1963 300 Pacesetter

Wow! You should buy a lottery ticket with your luck. With all of the problems people have had mis-matching brake parts, you are one in a million. Seems like everyone else that tries to combine front discs with drum rears and no proportioning valve, have all kinds of issues. I have done some...

Need advice for improving brake performance on my 1963 300 Pacesetter

It sounds like maybe your booster isn't up to the task. Probably needs a rebuild. You have replaced everything else. In my opinion, you should have replaced that single pot master cylinder with a dual bowl unit but that more than likely is not your immediate problem. There are some disc swaps...

    Who sells leaf springs?

I bought mine from Summit Racing

Asking for a little tech help understanding 1961 Chrysler power brakes.

Looks like either of those might work. For sure better than the single pot unit. They look like drum brake cylinders but I see they mention both applications.

Asking for a little tech help understanding 1961 Chrysler power brakes.

The bowl height is about 3". The lid and bail adds another inch. That is where the problem arises. If you had a flat lid without the bail you could probably get by without cutting it down. Plenty of ways to skin that particular cat but I used what I had. Like I said, no good leadership for you.

Asking for a little tech help understanding 1961 Chrysler power brakes.

I don't have any good leadership for you but my 60 Dart had the same brake setup as your 61 Newport with the dual cylinder front brake system and the bellows booster. I fought with those brakes for a few years trying to get them to play nice but had no luck getting them adjusted to my...

    Parking brake problems

Your dash brake light is dual purpose. You also have a wire coming from the Brake distribution block or Proportion valve block if you have front discs. If you have a leak or problem with either the front or rear brakes, the switch on the distribution block will send a ground to turn on that...

    Stuck emergency brake

When I had one on a rear wheel hang up on my truck, I was able to use a vice grip on the cable where the three come together and tap it back with a hammer. Never used the E brake again. Thank God for the park Pawl. My 60 Dart has no park gear so the E brake gets regular use.

    Brake Booster Parts

Glad you got it solved. Mopar to yuh. Burned rubber smells much better than burned brake shoes.

    Brake Booster Parts

I could be just an adjustment issue. You didn't change the length of the rod in your picture did you? Your FSM should have some directions for any adjustment needed. Good luck with it and glad you were able to get the booster working.

    Brake Booster Parts

I think that is just a dust boot. I can't imagine that is what is causing your loss of boost but I could be wrong.

Rear brake drums 1965 Plymouth Fury

I'm pretty sure there were no finned drums in 65. I have a pair from a 66 Fury that are in nice shape along with the axles that I may part with if you can't find some. I was saving them for my 65 but more than likely won't need them.

Thinking of Going BACK to Front Drums

Mis-matching brake parts seem to always cause issues. Then there is the idea that any power booster is better than none is a pipe dream too. Many people have a power brake drum car and think they can just upgrade to discs without realizing that disc brakes require about twice as much pressure to...

    Lifting the front ride height

I wouldn't hesitate to take the weight off and turn those adjusters up 3 or 4 turns. When you get it more to your liking, maybe have the alignment checked. From your info, the PO probably backed them off some to begin with.

    Lifting the front ride height

It probably was not a problem when these cars were new and in their prime. Now that they are senior citizens, it is a good idea to take the weight off when turning those adjuster bolts. When they get rusty even though they are grade 8 bolts, I've seen some that got the threads sheared off. A...

    14" wheels and disc brakes.

I used a set of disc brakes from a 1980 Aspen on my 60 Dodge Dart. I have the stock 60 Dart wheels and spinner hubcaps. No rubbing. It is not an ideal situation for my car though since I kept the stock power booster and needed to have the dual master cylinder machined down some to make it fit...

Tapered axle drum removalbut not the hub

You were able to get a 65-later drum to fit? I tried to slip a 65 Fury drum on my 60 Dart and the backing plate would not allow it. The outer lip on the 65 drum was not recessed like the 60 drum.

Tapered axle drum removalbut not the hub

Not sure what your reasoning is but I don't think the backing plate will allow a newer style drum. You will more than likely need to swap the backing plate along with the shoes and hardware from the newer style also.
