My Garage.....

General Information

I posted a few pics when I joined. I guess I'll go into more detail here.
I have wanted a classic car all my life. I had my heart set on a mid 60s mopar. With a budget of around $5,000, a base model 4 door with a slant 6 or 318 didnt bother me. All that was important is the car was in excellent shape, preferably a mostly original survivor. From about the age of 15, I kept a close eye on 1962-64 B bodies and 1965-66 C bodies. I really wanted a Dodge but a Plymouth or Chrysler was not out of the question. What made my mission very challenging is I wanted a quirky Canadian car. Something different then the run of the mill stuff from Detroit but still familiar enough for most enthusiasts.
I stumbled upon my car pretty early on in my search. A Canadian built 1965 Plymouth Savoy 4 door sedan. 28000 original miles, mostly original with a few minor repairs over the years. I found it on kijiji listed at $6500. I instantly fell in love and had to have it. At that point, I kicked myself in the butt and found a job working at Canadian Tire. Just after getting the job, I lost track of the seller. I kept working hard in case I found the car again or perhaps another car. Sadly 6 months later I lost my job. I was so discouraged, I wouldnt find another job for another 2 years. I just focused on school. Just after loosing my job, I found the car again and was able to keep in touch with the seller. He was not overly serious about selling it. He enjoyed the car but if someone wanted it, he was open to offers. We did negotiate a realistic ballpark price for me to aim for.
I found my second job installing office furniture. I worked crazy hours. I had hours everywhere from 6 hours a week to 90 hours a week. I made good money and was very close to buying the car that fall. Then the day before my 20th birthday, I was let go. I was about $1000 short of buying the car.
Finally last spring I found my current job at Rona. I worked hard but I kept having setbacks. I hit a curb with the car my parents loaned me breaking just about everything I could in the front end, had to do the brakes over, oil changes etc. I foolishly kept telling the seller I was close and gave estimates on when I expected to have the funds. Then I'd have a set back happen and things wouldnt work out. First I wanted to have the car for early summer. Then mid summer. By the end of the summer, I had decided I would buy the car on my 21st birthday, September 24th. I stopped bugging the seller and kept saving my money. 2 days before my birthday, I had the money. I called the seller up to tell him I was ready. Unfortunately he didn't believe I had the money and said the car was not for sale. I was pretty upset I had lost the car. Right away, I started looking at others but everything I looked at was in much lesser shape. I just couldnt find anything in the condition I wanted for the price I wanted. One month later, I knew I'd be driving by the sellers place so I grabbed my wad of cash and decided to stop by. I laid $3500 out in hundreds, gave the car a final inspection and bought it that day. My first car, bought and paid for on my own with no help or support. I had the car towed home where it sat in my garage. I spent the next few weeks cleaning it up before I had to put it away in storage for the winter.
Now i'm looking for parts and trying to save up the funds to get the car on the road in the spring. I have a good idea what the car needs and fortunately I will have some help this time. I expect to have the car home in early April and hopefully on the road by mid May at the latest.

Well done on the hunt. Now, have some real fun. Join the AACA. Take the car to a meet. Have it judged for HPOF and get your treasure recognized for what it is and how you found it.
