440/727/3:21 sure grip. Jasmine yellow w/white leather interior. Super nice car that was special ordered by dealership owner's wife in california. I'm trying to figure out why headlight doors open as soon as you turn key on. After a few mins, they do go back closed. Odd. Been looking around under dash and there's no funny stuff. I just had factory stereo head out to replace belt in 8T player. I've had several tell me The headlight door motor relay in dash behind radio is faulty, but I'm not too sure that's what it is. Could be a faulty contact in door motor transmission, perhaps?

Are the headlights on when this happens or does it have automatic headlights? What about the automatic light sensor?

Nice looking car!

Welcome!

"safeguard sentinel" light doohickey wasnt available after 75

As to the HLT doors. Check to see the bulbs were changed to LED’s or anything other than OE. I say this because my 77 does the same because I have the LED’s.. just my 2 cents..

Sounds like the headlamp door relay is stuck in the open position.

If the headlights have been converted in any way you'll want to replace the relay with a modern grounded one.

Sounds like the headlamp door relay is stuck in the open position. It should be located behind the dash on passenger side near the A pillar.

its in the dash on the passenger side of the steering column, not near an A pillar

T! Would you happen to have a picture of where it will be located. As you know, my dash is 1 million pieces at the moment, and since I’m having the same issue, I can swap mine out while having access.

Well John, as marko pointed out, there appear to be more differences in the wiring from '75 Imp to '76-'78 NY than I thought so someone else might be better at pointing you towards its location. But here's an older pic of what the thing looked like on mine, near the A pillar.
