I had noticed for some time that the rpm at idle was not staying stable and the timing was also not stable. Did some checking and found that the shaft play in the distributor was excessive. I had been running this distributor for about 2 years, was a reman. After looking at some of the posts and other sources decided to buy a new electronic distributor. I bought the Spectra Premium from Rockauto, for under $60.00 with shipping I figured not too bad. Before installing it I did swap out the vacuum advance unit from the old distributor, it is a factory unit I took off an old points distributor I had, it starts to pull in timing at about 7.5 in of vacuum. Now the timing is spot on and the rpm much more stable at idle. The engine seems to just run better overall. When I get more time I will install the limiter plate from FBO I have and maybe swap springs. But for now very happy!
