Up to my tits in work. Just had a minute to check in after installing two replacement ceiling fans today…. Both were working fine but the wife asked…. Long story.

that's the one. it's in my garage now. it needs an idler arm and sway bar links and bushings. and some horrendous oil leaking from the valve covers. i am looking at replacing the carb. it doesn't run well until you get up to speed. has anyone converted one of these to a Holley EFI unit? that seems the way to go for hassle free driving.

not as glamorous as those Miami pics. I also need to find a parking brake release lever and a spare tire.

Hi, just came into possession of a triple black 77 new yorker. I'd appreciate any info i might need to know. I'm new tge C bodies. Thanks
Welcome. You are in the right place, a lot of knowledgeable people on this board. And like everybody else I'm anxious to see those pics.

should i go back to the factory "lean burn" setup? or what's a better aftermarker carb for this car? i see so many Edelbrocks and even Holleys that i don't know what i'm looking for.....
I would not recommend going back to the Lean Burn or even replacing it with something else. Just leave it disconnected. Chrysler even sold a kit back in the day to disable it because they gave so much trouble. I am on my second 77 NY, and love every minute of driving it. I have an edelbrock 650 carb w/electric choke on it and it works great, and am doing a few more things to it. BTW, if you need old stock parts, hiltopautoparts.com has a lot but are a little pricey. But they do have some hard to find items. If your car has Auto Temp II and you have issues, contact me. I went through my entire system and have it operating and learned a lot. Awesome looking car, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine!

Do a search for EFI conversion, there’s plenty of threads on it. several members that have done it. Very detailed information on the pros and cons of those systems.

Thanks for the link to hilltop auto parts, as you mentioned, a bit pricey, but if you need NOS they do seem to have a lot. I just purchased a couple items from the 77 New Yorker. Thanks again

Leave the AVS 2 on it, I love mine. Please do not go back to Lean burn. It worked okay in testing at Chrysler, It worked okay when the car was new, It won't work worth a damn today. Most of the folks in this group are died in the wool Chrysler guys. They wouldn't do it. Just go digging. You'll find the answers. Great looking car by the way!
my AVS2 doesn't run well at all. i wonder if there's something missing in it's installation. there seem to be several vacuum lines missing....

also, i'm in need window weatherstrip......Steele didn't have it, at least not labeled. maybe someting from their universal catalog.

I'm new to these, so i dont know option from standard. Its got the usual. AC, cruise, power everything. Regular climate controls ( sounds like there was an upgrade offered) sport wheels.
Looking further, i have the button tufted leather seats in black and the St Regis style vinyl top.

Remove the rear seat and see if there is a broadcast sheet between the springs and the foam, if there is remove it very carefully and scan or photo a readable image up here, you will be a very popular site fan if you do that.
(that sheet shows all the build options)

Oh BTW we ground through this car over the (many) years it was on auction sites and it's problems.

Follow up on the AVS2. I've been thru most of the systems. I sealed off some vacuum leaks, changed the plugs. Each step, it runs a little better. Carrying a solid 15" of vacuum. Then i tackled the timing. It was set at about 18 degrees, which was part of the problem. I tried the default "start at 12d" i read on here, but no better. So, with some advice from my brother, i set up the vacuum gauge and tuned it by ear, retarding until the vacuum drops
. Its now at about 6 degrees and doing much better, but not quite smooth yet. I know its a 440, but this isnt the kind of car where the engine should shake at idle. Might look at replacing the JDM Speed ignition for something better. Also set the accelerator pump linkage to the leanest setting. (The installer upsized the jets, which may have been a mistake.) I need to follow thru and make sure they also upgraded the needle and spring.
Otherwise, the car is doing well. Still makes some alarming drivetrain noises, so i'm still looking for a shop to get it up on a lift.

These Formals will keep you on your toes.. keep at it!!

I did. Installed myself. And posted thoughts on it later. Shoot me a message if you have questions.
On other stuff that you may consider looking at.
- If you plan driving at night or dusk, consider spending on Euro-standard Hellas instead of the pathetic DOT sealed beams.
- The steering can be made a bit more tolerable by very cautious tightening/adjustment of the steering box. But the ultimate solution would be installing the Bergman/Borgeson steering box. But that is quite expensive. Although not as costly as EFI conversion.
