Well I finally got a chance to work on the new drag car. I basically just dropped everything else & said the heck with it. I'm working on the race car today. First order of business was to get the seat back & down so my knees won't be hitting the windshield. I don't want to spend much money on this thing & want to use parts I already have if at all possible. The guy I got it from had the seat mounted on 1 inch square tube that was mounted on 2 1/4 steel square tubing & through bolted to the floor with long 4 inch bolts. So I took all of that out. Looked it all over. Made measurments. Looked through my stash of brackets & square tubing. I decide to use the 1 inch tubing that came with the car. Bolted it directly to the floor in the existing holes. Then bolted the seat directly to that tubing using existing holes. He had drilled a lot of nice round holes in the tubing I guess to lighting it. I moved the seat back to the furthest set of holes & bolted it down. It worked. Very good driving position. A little low which I like. I can reach everything easily. Done deal

I just used the 1 inch square tubing & bolted it right to the floor. The seat on it with the same brackets he used

I weighed those big 2 1/4 pieces of square tubing & it was 8 POUNDS. WOW! So that's 292 pounds to go as I plan to put her on a diet of 300 pounds

The one inch tubing looks like the perforated stuff they make racks and sign posts from. It will work fine, just don't think he drilled all those holes himself.

What the heck is this ? An electrical cord & also the female end of the cigarette lighter dangling from under the dash. So I sent the guy I bought the car from a text asking. And he said the electrical cord was to hook a battery charger too. OK I'm not sure how that all works. It's the wrong end. Or is that where the cig lighter come in. Anyway I got everything working except the amp gauge. I think it's bad. Most likely will replace it with a volt gauge anyway. Since the car has a cut off.

Keep up the Progress Bob. I like inspiration to get me involved in Drag racing
I still have stuff to learn and enjoy seeing you work on this car.

Thank you. It may be a while before I can work on it again. I started it up today. I got to tell you it sounds strong. This guy I got it from used wire ties on everything. The car is held together with wire ties. That's what I will attack next. Then a header leak

Ok so the header on the pass side is rubbing the collector. So I took the header off. I'm under the car pulling it out & notice the trans mount is bad & has a lot of sag. So I figured that why it's rubbing the header. Went to Advance Auto & got a new Chinese mount (I kbow) & took the old one out easily. The through bolt won't go in the new one. Hole is too small. So I thought I was going to get this all done today. Guess not.

I got a new one from Rockpepadvancezone and I had no problems.
Mine was made in India and the metal was a much thinner gauge, tho...

Well the second trans mount had the same problem so I took it to my neighbors shop. He had a drill bit that was .003 oversize & drilled it out & now the bolt fits perfectly. So I got the mount installed. However the header still hits. So I slid under the car with my pry bar & prayed it off the trans. Ive got about 3/8 clearance now. May wrap that part of the heater too . Now on to the drive shaft safety loop. Started on it yesterday. I bought one from Jegs. It's very tight. The floor hump is very shallow. I had to move back 10 inches from the joint. Rules say a max of 6. I'll have to explain this to the tech guy

Bob is sad. While reinstalling the driveshaft I rung off one of the bolts. It's my own fault. When I was removing the bolt it felt funny & again when I reinstalling it. I should have cleaned all the threads & chased the yoke threads. But....
It's too bad. I've been making pretty good progress on it last week or so. Have my to do list down to a hand full of things.

Will Bob be enjoying the drill? Or does Bob have a replacement in the collection?

Either way, it's a PITA you didn't need.
I'll get another chance to use those expensive cryogenic drills I bought. Notice I didn't say drill bits. I have been educated. The frustrating thing is I seem to take two steps forward & one step back. I have been bragging all week about how close I was getting this car to being ready for a TNT & this happens.
