Needed some bolts for a project so at lunch I gobto the big box store.
Get into the parking lot and I see an old MoPar pulling into the space I plqnned on taking so I parked next to it. A black over white fully restored 55 New Yorker. Of course I left my phone on my workbench so I couldnt take pics!
It wasnt a concours resto as the bodywork looked a little wavy and the paint had that "thick" look to it.
It was a good driver resto, though.
I spoke with the owner for a second but l3ft him alone as he was making a phone call.

If I have time I'll turn around and follow someone a short distance and see if they pull into a store so I can check out their ride and talk to the owner.

Aha. You are one of those. I fell victim to that just wanting to quickly buy a portable AC at home Depot... Lol

If I feel the slightest "ugh" from the owner I'll just tell them nice car and leave. I can tell if they want to talk or not, and I don't want to bother them.

I've met some good friends and plenty of nice people because I stopped because of their car. Never know what that chance meeting might lead to.

You know, I've been cornered in the garage about 4 times by pairs of guys. Only one pair realized that I was severely uncomfortable with them walking in on me while I was working on the car and backed up and gave me some room to get comfortable. I really dislike working on something and turn around and there's two guys standing in the garage door opening.

Not sure why they always come up in pairs but it bugs the f outta me. I live in an active construction zone, they're building houses on both sides of me, so there's always people coming and going.

Did have a smart pair that at least initiated contact from the street while I was in the garage. Those guys I let crawl all over the car. We bullshitted for about 30 minutes and they moved on.

I hate it when scruffy contractors come to the house. Only God knows WhoTF they are. They see the NYB parked in the garage and all I see is them looking for 2:00 AM entry points.
Their prison ink makes me nervous.

Yea .. got my tools stolen that way once. Generally, on the street or at the pump I don't have any issues and have met some awesome folks that way but uh, yea, stay the hell off my driveway.

Luckily I now have three rather large and imposing dogs who love to hang out while I work. Folks aren't so inclined to walk up to my home.

I have only gone up to one garage, and that was a long time ago, before I had a project car. I wouldn't feel comfortable with someone coming up to my garage uninvited, so I don't do that to others.

I used to have neighbors come into the garage and I really didn't mind that but if it's just strangers, that's not okay.

I had something similar happen before, some door knob polishers trying to sell me stuff. I was in the garage and they wanted to talk to me but didn't come anywhere close, that's when I realised they were afraid cause I was cutting up boxes with the kabar combat knife. I put the thing down and talked to them about the car but I always feel like they are spying out the place.
