1966 Polara

Nice looking Polara, Scott! I really like it just the way it is :)

It looks super solid. Did you have to put any work into floor boards/trunk floor?
Thanks, it's been an interesting ride, pun intended. It's in pretty good shape, the floor boards have some surface rust from water leaking at the rear window, and the trunk floor and extensions look good from the views I can see. The lower quarters will need attention soon.

Best $100 I spent, getting it delivered to my door. Wayne, the seller was kind enough to try and buy the Medalist off me! Being a true car guy, he offered again before he left, I knew we had a keeper 100 times over when he did that.

Pushed aside to focus, cough cough,on the Medalist. Had to park the Polara behind the garage.

Good thing I did, it made for a quick table for the fenders, and I didn't have far to go to reinstall the stuff I was taking out. I had to work on it while waiting on parts for the Merc, I should have just ordered everything but I was hopeful it didn't need it all. It did.

The grandkids even came out to help with the cars, kind of!

If you ever want a bad picture of yourself, have a two foot tall child take your pic! Do I drink that much beer?

The view in August. Swapped as much as I could for the interior, felt different with the bench I was now sitting on, it's at least 4" higher, and feels totally different driving the car.

Your car is very sporty looking. Me likes!

It sounds stupid, but I don't I now if I can pint the car. I want to go silver, and then started thinking about the 4,000 variations, ugh. I need new tires fairly soon, I did a few burnouts at the informal get together in August, the last one as I left. I thought I had a flat, it took a few miles to get the tire to, form again? Idk, it was rough. They are at least 40 years old, are hard as granite, and leave a lot for handling on poor roads. It's tough finding 15" slots, non unilug, for anything less than a new rims. And everything I've found is rough. I'll go with Rocket Injector wheels in the as cast finish, shiny isn't what my car is about. When I bring it to a show, I'm still surprised how someone will take a quick glance at a way nicer car, then stop and look my car over for a lot longer than I would have thought. The all makes show I attend in September, I parked, registered , and came back to a 69 Road Runner with a Hemi beside me, a nice car, not original drivetrain (tool me 3 years of car shows to see the vin, no fender tag). As I wandered around the show I'd walk the area around my car and people weren't giving a second glance to the Runner. That made my day! I think I'll do whatever body work is required for the lower quarters, seal it, prime it and spray some flat clear over it. I even talked to my insurance guy, and if I covered it with flat clear I could get full coverage. Yep, I'm cruising with only liability. But before I get read the riot act, I live in farm country, with little to no traffic. I only go to a few shows and have highway driving the whole way. I can go for a 25-30 mile cruise and see a handful of cars. And because I know the brakes aren't perfect and a host of other things, mostly "trust no one Dr. Jones", I drive with an attentive attitude. Plus in general I pass every car I come upon, I hat can I say, she likes to stretch her legs!

Little story from when I lived with those brothers. We had a two lane highway running through town, with a four lane passing zone west of town, what I called my "test strip", sounded good. Anywho, I'd take the Polara out for some gas pedal stomping trials, once heading west, then heading east. I'd get the car up to 100 then let off, turn around, repeat, back her down to 5 over and go back home. Almost every time, I would pass a sheriff on the way back home after my "test" was over. Uncanny. A bit irresponsible, sure, but it was nice to check things out, transmission, engine, carb tuning, whatever we messed with. It doesn't like that anymore, with those tires being the reason, it starts shaking a little bit more than I like. I was 1/3 younger and dumber then. Maybe just the younger part? I'm not sure, as they say, "you never grow up, you never grow old".

As requested, a picture from the informal get together, Mopars on the Slope, held by three brothers on their family farm. I had just bolted the front seat in at noon, and headed out. Enjoying the drive so much, I was looking to my left as I passed the cars on my right! I was enjoying the ride.

Mark your calendar for August 11th, the second annual.

There were a few big hitters at that show, in terms of cars owned, past and present. And no one was an *******. Gotta love it. Maybe next year we can get that guy with the 6 Barrel GTX to do a burnout.

Here's the next parts car, a 500 model! Get the correct year dash, column, console and linkage, no more guessing and finding out the hard way if I have the right parts.

Been exposed for some time but the plastic pieces I'm after are all covered and in good shape, and trim can be cleaned up.

Gotta get the driver's door open so I can get @69CoronetRT his vehicle ID info!

I have an A/C car,and every parts car I've had has been non A/C. I love the vents, even though they are useless, I just like the looks of them after having them stare at me for so long. When I striped the white car, that was actually blue, I started thinking about how to save them. Something to worry about later, I might have the original dash in for a while so it doesn't matter til it comes out.

Found this in the white car with some parts I found in the trunk. Dated 1/14/2010. We thought values were out of wack now? The internet, some good, a whole lotta bad info to trudge through.

Great thread! I’m looking at a dual exh kit for my Monaco next year. How do the TTI outlet tips look on yours?

They look ok but I still need to cut the pipes down to get them tucked under the bumper.

Thanks. Thats my concern. It’s hard to find any done with the correct original style turn downs.

Thanks. The tag is in, surprisingly, good shape.

Need an extra A/C dash frame? Prep it before you start yanking the other?

The first car show! Watertown MN 9/6/2008. Parked right in front of the DJ's car, good old Chopper. I still had the 383 at the time. It was old and tired. It moved the car, but that was about it.

IMG_0956.JPG

I had so much crap in the trunk, it sat level. I took it out and the back came up more than I expected.

Even won a door prize!

My friend, one of the brothers, Jeff's car. Had it for a price, seller held out for a titch more, but called later at a lot less come get it quick price, and the whole family packed up two trucks and headed to Arizona to get it and all it's pieces, as well as a 1967 Mercury Cougar. He got the car home and after getting it repainted, he assembled the car after work and on weekends. He even helped the window guy install the windshield. Came with the original 383, but the swapped it out for a 400 from a friends car that has Jeff's old 440 from his 69 Charger, the car that introduced our friendship.

This Super Bee, he picked it up CHEEEEAAAAAAPPPPP. So good things can still happen.

What an A**hole parking job. I really didn't think it was that bad. But I wasn't blocking anyone so it was fine. I learned a little that day.

IMG_0991.JPG

Same show the next year. I had swapped in the 400 I had from a previous truck I owned. It didn't fare well after the truck. It started starving for oil, swapped pumps and thought we had it. But after the show we went to a drive in not to far away, and it lost and never regained oil pressure, so I moved it out of the way. had to pass the car to get the tow dolly and tried to start it again, same thing, a bunch of noise that shouldn't be there. so I moved it across the street where we could load it better. Got the dolly, came back got the ramps ready and, hush. I had oil pressure! "Sorry guys, I'm gonna drive it home, we still have the trailer if we need it." And back home we went.

I also learned that day that my door locks are from a different set than the trunk lock. Felt good having too much crap inside the car and not being locked. I also realized how easy becoming a hoarder really can be. I decided then that if I didn't need something (other than my car stuff) I didn't care if it went away. It's amazing how fast things can accumulate. Back to cars!
