As I wait for the completion of this phase of vehicle refurbishment, this song comes to mind.

Thanks. I wish I had the free time, equipment, facilities, and know how to do more of this myself, but farming out the skilled work to pros is the route I am on for the time being. The guys at the shop are doing good work.

Went to Leon’s. I know that place has been documented elsewhere but I’ll post a few pics. I picked a handful of parts off the one old 73 Monaco they had. Saw a Plymouth Sport Suburban wagon and a T&C. A bunch of sedans. Pity to see some relatively solid cars rotting away, but I am very glad to have access to some parts.

I want to take a moment and share in some nostalgia. When I was getting ready to go off to college, my very hard working dad secretly bought me a 1970 Chrysler Newport sedan that looked virtually identical to this one (I think this is a 69?). As I recall it had 45,000 miles on it and he gave $700 for it, then he had it re-painted for me. 383 2bbl and 15 mpg. I think it had a 20 gal. tank and a 300 mile range. It was a good car.

He was the best dad a guy could ask for.

This is a 71 Newport Royal. The grille has the two horizontal strips and the center emblem like Newports and Newport Customs made that year, the side trim end doesn´t extend close to the front wheel well and the rear bumper is smooth like those of 70 Newports and Newport Customs and it has no slotted trim on the tail lamps. Royal was the new cheap model and it was equipped with a 360 LA when neither a 383 or a 440 was desired by the original buyer.

Sad to see GB2 Glacial Blue (I think) resting on its laurels and gathering rust.

Thanks. I have an old Motor’s Manual with photos of the grilles but was too tired last night to check it. I also noticed the difference with the grille between this one and my 70. My 70 was a standard Newport. It had an AM radio and AC. Not much else!

Do you happen to have any pics that have survived over the years?

They had to do a mix. I don’t think an off the shelf color was available. SEM provides a color pigmentation % to use, i.e. 17% olive green, 55% earth brown, 15% sand tan, 7% black, 6% white, etc. It should all add up to 100%, then the shop put it in a mixer for a few hours. One trouble with this was when it was mixed in the mixer it didn’t look right. Then it had to be spread on a paper and air dried to see if it matched. A more standard color would probably be easier.
