I finished building my 69 fury dash Tach today

Can you give a quick run down of how the dash comes apart ? On a B body, you need to pull the windshield in order to access the screws, which, you've obviously not had to do.

Thanks[/ Sure thing - I followed a video on Facebook from the fellow that makes new dash pads for these cars his company is called ABCmoparts . I will post a link for it. I could only find the video on Facebook.

I used my mini ratchet and a 3/8 socket from an old drill bit set I had for metal screws .( I’m sure a small impact drill socket would work as well) This setup worked very well to remove the screws in the defrost vents that are extremely close to the windshield . It maybe took 10-15 minutes to get those 4 screws out . In the video he uses a long flexible extension to get at these screws . I have one of these flexible extensions but i didn’t need to use it . I found the ratchet’s small size very handy and easy to use in that tight spot. necessity is the mother of invention. I had a mini ratchet so that’s what I used , I got it (up here in Alberta) at Canadian tire a few years back. It’s turned out to be one of the handiest little tools sets I have .

Nice detail work Marlow, I use a silver paint pen from hobby lobby, sorry don't have a C dash to show, but I do have a B dash bezel and just did the pick up bezel as well (no pic)

The liquid chrome pen I used leaves a self leveling , very close to mirror finish , very much like the chrome on an arm rest base plate. I took a few pictures to try and show the reflection of the finish. I was blown away buy how easy it was to use and the end result. I’ve tried the silver paint pen you are talking about but it didn’t give me the chrome finish I was going for . I got my liquid chrome pen at a hobby store in Calgary called PM Hobby craft . I highly recommend the MOLOTOW liquid chrome pen it comes in several different tip sizes. I bought the 4mm,2mm and 1mm tip size pens.

Thanks Marlow, Have a set of 3 MOLOTOW chrome pens on their way for the C dash.

Looking great Marlow thanks for the chrome pen info!
:thankyou:
They work great, there’s a couple good videos on YouTube about them. It’s pretty cool how good they work, you just press the tip like any other paint pen and away you go . It takes a few seconds after you lay a nice coat down for it to level out , in the same few seconds it turns from a silver to mirror finish. It’s a cool product to use. If I had a pail of this stuff I would dip all kinds of things in it . I made a couple of mistakes and I had to be quick with a micro fibre cloth to wipe it off and start over. Let it dry over night then you can handle it with out any issues. Touch ups are easy done just make sure the tip is wet and go for it. The chrome levels fairly well. If I can do it anyone can do it.

Looking great Marlow! I have had the exact same mini ratchet set for years, can't imagine how much easier it's made certain jobs. I recently got a slightly heavier duty version at princess auto. Give me a day or two and I'll post a photo or two of my glovebox stereo install. Same dash, I really thought it through and I think it worked out well.

I look forward to seeing your pictures!!!

This is in my '71 Polara. It's the only one that turned out, the lighting wasn't working well. The flash really brings out the edges of the black paperboard, and I can see the back corner has split. The bezel isn't installed, I can't remember why. I had some practice on a '71 Monaco before I did this one, it had A/C and had to be mounted square, which made it difficult to read the display from the drivers seat. This is as good as it gets. Remote required of course. Pioneer, my preference as well, offers a wired remote too. Last one I installed didn't have the threaded hole in the heatsink at the back, which helps in this case. Not sure if I got a dud or what. If yours doesn't have one you could drill and tap one.

Well I finally got around to taking a few pictures of the installed tach, it’s worked well the past few months. The one thing I would do is mount the needle a few degrees counter clockwise so it starts at the zero mark. As it stands now it starts at the white mark just above the zero. But that’s a next winter job.

While I had the dash pad off this past winter , I replaced the AM radio with a 8 track from one of my parts cars. I like the look of it but not the sound of it. Then I mounted my Bluetooth stereo in my glove box along with a new 140 watt dual voice coil speaker from custom auto sound in the centre of the dash pad. I mounted the Bluetooth microphone for the new stereo on the lower right hand corner below the 8 track stereo fader dial. I can now receive and make crystal clear hands free phone calls from my car via the Bluetooth stereo wirelessly connected to my phone . It will play all the tunes on my phone as well as streaming satellite radio from my phone. I really enjoy being able to listen to quality tunes while I drive.

I replaced the speaker in the back seat with a new dual coil 140 watt custom auto sound speaker and replaced the speaker screen with perforated stainless steel. The argent silver paint wore off down to the chrome and I liked the look so I left it that way. I think the contrast of the unpolished stainless grill against the chrome trim works well together.

My rear seat’s -back of the Seat speaker cover was very brittle and broken so I just made my own cover. ABCmoparts sells them but I haven’t ordered one yet.

I have a 15” sub in the trunk, A set of 6” in the front kick panels . I did not cut the original panels , I used a set from a parts car . I installed a set of self contained speakers beside the bottom of back just seat below the window switch’s. They fit very nice with no cutting of any original car material. The amps are mounted to the sub box. All stereo parts can be easily removed in an afternoon with out any damage to the car if needed. The middle amp is unhooked at the moment, it’s for future plans . The tunes never sounded better in the old girl .
