What's with the title bs ?!?

I would surmise he is looking to recoup the cost of obtaining a title thru the DMV. I had to bond a Wisconsin title for my 300K and it cost me an extra $100 for the bond, plus the actual title work from the state. He may just provide a bill of sale otherwise and leave it up to the buyer to get a title proving ownership. Can't say I blame him due to the cost and time invested.

Something like that should just remain unsaid. Just ask for the car what you need to have.:realcrazy:

Is the seller retarded? No one wants a car without a title. Hell. . . Around here, you can't even junk a car without a title.

Not True..........

Dorsey is someone you just have to know. He's a good friend and a great guy, well respected on the "forward look" site.
Maybe you don't know how to obtain a title where your at Rip, but it can be done with little effort. Alabama DMV does not issue a title to any vehicle older then 1972. All that is needed is a BOS and sometimes an inspection to verify the VIN. The vehicle can be registered here, taken to a title state and titled with the Bama registration and a BOS in that state.

I appreciate your comments, Wil, but it is nearly impossible here in MD to get a new title for a car, when you don't already have a title for the car. I don't think I would ever buy a car without a title - even if it was just for parts.

I understand Rip. I'm fortunate to live in a place that makes vehicle registration easy. There are several other states that operate this way. I have heard horror stories about obtaining vehicle registrations in some areas. I would never hold back on a desirable purchase due to not having a title, heck, you can't buy a vehicle older that 1972 and get a title in Alabama.
Someone interested could ship this car through Bama, or one of the additional "no title" states, get a registration, and title it in their state.

I understand the no title issues. Thats why I got a bonded title for my 300. If your state doesn't allow for bill of sale or transfer of ownership without a title, you're taking a risk. As stated Wisconsin has a bonded title process, whereas you can post bond based on a declared value and then is bonded thru your insurance policy. It's the purchasers decision to take that risk walk away. All I'm saying is this owner would be willing to obtain a title, but is passing the cost onto the next owner. It would be peace of mind to buy it with a title to most guys. If you're not comfortable or your state has issues with non-titled vehicles, simply walk away and let someone else decide what's of best interest to them or what their state dictates. I sure would add the fee to my asking price and have probably more interest by purchases because I have a title.

I have to agree with Rip about titles in Md. I had bought my NYB and the title had one digit that was wrong. I had a copy of the title from PA. They said that it was impossible. My Md title had the digit for the year wrong. It was 1979. I told her that I had the car outside we can verify the VIN and correct the title. Back and forth and back and forth. I told her they didn't make that car in 1979. 1978 was the last year. I had to get an appt at the main MVA in Glen Burnie and have the state trooper that does the violation verification verify my VIN. It took 2 weeks and 4 trips to the MVA to get my title corrected.

I would be less worried about title issues than I would be about all that rust. Going to be an ambitious project for a 6cyl car.

I have to agree. Lots of rust repair and near impossible to locate parts. I would upgrade to a big block if I were doing this car. It's the price of being unique though.

Trying to update anything with a slant 6 to a big block is a major PIA because of the oddball 6cyl engine mounts. Do not think that conversion mounts would be available for this setup, so they would have to be fabricated.

Call Schumaker....they might have a work around.
