Clearly you havent. It's not in the trash can....
How right you are! This Frankenstein mess of a carb ain’t worth a squirt of piss.
It’s part of a collection of Edelbrock/Carter carbs that I somehow ended up with. This is one out the bunch that I could never get to act right.

I did get it started and held it around 2000 rpm for about 5 min. Pretty noisy with open shorty headers.
I know the cam brake in procedure calls for running like that for 30 min. But, I always do it in 5-10 min increments with cooling down, tightening headers, checking this and that in between sessions.

It backed itself out of the garage for a little time in the sun! More tweaking, adjusting and breaking in...and a cleaning of the garage.

I like how an Edelbrock air cleaner won’t fit an Edelbrock carb. But an el cheapo Mr. Gasket does just fine.
Anyway, while I was at the parts store, found this nifty Mopar breath cap!
Pay no mind to the temporary wiring you see in these pics.

I’m waiting for my son to get home and help me set the hood off to the side then take a short test drive. I’ve been hard at on this project since I got the engine and heads back and I am tired and sore. I’m not as young as I used to be.
Oh how I pray for death to release me from this damaged vessel.

I’m going to pat myself on the back here. 57 days. That’s how long it took me to do what is documented in this thread as far as the mechanical restoration. I’m 50 and have a full time job as well. I must admit I had a lot of help from my 16 yr old son though!
Next up is the exhaust. then, the rear differential will be changed from a one legged 8.25 to a sure grip 9.25. After I heal up and take a break, that is!

Now I know what it's like to look out the windshield of a running driving 72 Polara 4 dr. sedan (motivation.)

It took a long, long time to find one.
I was determined to drive it!
Maybe next time with a hood on it.

Well, the 750 Carter Competition carb was not to my liking.
I figure a a 360 with a max rpm around 5000 needs no more than 600 cfm to run efficiently.
My pile of carbs does not have a 600 in it so...

Experimenting with some alternate kickdown linkage,,,got some broad helping me.
I know there is a cable kit fix for it but,
this project has cut into my party liquor fund enough!!
I’m not finished with it, again, just experimenting...

Hey, you got a 1406! Decades ago I had good luck with one on a 360 Cordoba, am in the process of trying another on a big block.

Yes sir! Sometimes, people have a tendency to over carburate, myself included. Many online carb calculators are available to steer you to reality!

If I remember correctly the factory carb. for the 440 was rated at 600 cfm.

I think the Thermoquads were 800-1000 cfm. The 318’s even got a 800 TQ. The thing is, with the small primaries and the way the large rear secondary barrels worked it would only give as much as the engine would take.
Pretty good set up if you have a good one. I believe the TQ got a bad rap sometimes because of the mid to late 70’s engines that people most likely had their first experience with was a low compression smog dog that no carb could have helped!

Remember this parts car? Last call for parts. I’m taking the rear end out of this car soon.
I’ve given parts off of this car to members who needed them. I’ve stopped working on my car to remove parts box them up and ship them at no charge. And was glad to do it.
Can’t say I’ll do it again, cause I’m busy and on a mission.
Now, it’s my turn to get what I want. If you have to have something from this car and it’s not too hard to remove I’ll see what I can do. I’ll still have the car for a while but,I am going to move it a few feet to the left.

Anyway, as I was saying, I want the 9.25 sure grip out of this 73. And I don’t want to lay in the mud to get it. Actually, this was done with minimal damage....just had to move the car to the left a few feet...good underneath except for the stub
