Valve Cover Gaskets - ‘74 400

My 74 Fury has two valve cover gaskets that drip oil onto the exhaust manifolds and make a stink. Reading through other thread multiple people recommended Real Tennessee Gaskets so I’m giving them a go.

Started on the driver’s side last night. I figure I’ll drive it for a bit with one side done before I decide to do the other.

The red gaskets were designed to solve the problem on big block mopars with the VC gaskets burning out over the center line exhaust ports, this was a big problem on police cruisers that did extended high speed chases. Adding a coat of aircraft grade Permatex to each side of the gasket will further aid in sealing. This style gasket is the best currently available option.

I found I had to trim the tabs on my Tenn. gaskets.

Was this your experience as well ?
 
Drivers side was solid during the inaugural idle in the driveway and gas station run. I doubled down and did the passenger side and should have some time to take a ride tomorrow.

This was the first time I used the Pittsburgh inch pound torque wrench I bought at Harbor Freight. At first I thought it was broken because it does not click when it hits the torque spec. Turns out it just sort of rocks near the head when you hit the number. I think I’m going to use this an excuse to buy a good one for more important things.

Don't bother, get a old beam inch pound torque wrench, I had a SnapOn inch pound clicky, never really trusted it, even sent it off for re-certification with my other SnapOn clicky's via my SnapOn salesman with a note 'Attention Phil' (I knew the fellow at the SnapOn service Center, RIP Phil) all came back certified with the appearance of nothing being done.
(no bill either).
