Dana,

I do not see any threads in your vendor forum, so I thought I would ask you a question here rather than PM. Maybe this info will be useful to others.

I am finishing my 505 stroker motor for my 1968 300 cruiser. Mild cam and highway gears. I am wondering if I should try and use my 4749 Holley carb? Do you know what the cfm is?

I am assuming that it may be a little small. Can it be modified to flow more air?

Thanks for using this forum, I was getting around to it. The only way I would use that carb for your setup is if you are dead set on numbers and originality, like in F.A.S.T. Class racing. Then we could pour the hours in maxing out your 4749. Please let me know your goals for this project. I assume that you want to retain a choke? That carbs advertised flow is 600 cfm give or take. It would work ok on a 505 in a dump truck!

Thanks.
I am trying to keep the stock "look", but this is not an all numbers matching car. If someone wants that after I am dome with the car, I'll keep the carb on the self for them. A similar carb might be nice. I would like:

Similar to the stock look (meaning not the Edlebrock carb)
Electric choke
Enough CFM for 475 hp
VERY good idle and response for cruising. No racing.
Using an old Edelbrock CH4B intake (Performer) that I will paint

If you don’t mind going to a dual feed, I think a worked over 780 Vacuum secondary will fit your bill nicely in a heavy car, strictly street application.

Never did like the O.E. Holley on my old 68 New Yorker.
It was like an old Fender guitar-constantly tuning it,LOL!!

I agree wth Dana,go with the dual feed Holley for your particular set up.
Crisp throttle response, great overall performance whether cruising or eating up Mustwangs.

Funny you should ask. I have a customer right now with a 66 Chevelle 396 325hp. He has made several performance upgrades and is pushing the 400 hp Mark, all while keeping stock appearance. So, we snuck a 750 main body in between his side hung float bowls and modified a 750 baseplate to mimick his 3419 with the divorced choke also. I’m just not sure if the transfer tube will flow enough at WOT. I figure Holley didn’t retool and start making duel feed carbs for the heck of it. I will be test running the 3419 clone Monday. I will take a couple pictures before it leaves the shop.

Cbarge. What did you finally go to?
At the time I borrowed my buddy's 750 double pumper. Worked excellent.
I had to give it back and could not afford a new carb at the time.
So I got me a Marine 750 Carter I modified for car application (vacuum advance port drilled)
It was used just to break in a boat motor that was upgraded with a blower and injection.
I had a 260/260 Purple shaft cam,massaged 906 heads,TTI exhaust,3.23 gears.

I like originality myself, but reliability and running properly trumps that card.
As you said yourself, keep the original carb, maybe the original fuel feed line.

Yes 3310-1 as a starting point

Nice. I love those things. I’m no genius when it comes to carbs but an LD340 and one of those w a DC cam made my 340s giant killers. Impossible to describe the crisp throttle response. I know people bemoaned Holleys as leakers vs carter but boy oh boy brother.

Great to have you on here as a resource hope things are going great for you. Thanks Ed

Cruising and tip in the #1 carb is a Carter TQ, totally wrong for your "look"
Just make a dual feed line from copper nickel line and hide it under the air cleaner, cake and eat it to.
My 2 cents.

My piecemealed TQ outperforms the new 600 Eddy loaner I had on my Charger hands down
Better MPG, throttle response, WOT

I agree on all of your points
I have a TQ on my 73 Satellite 318 wagon. Love it especially being a 3 on da tree.

For the OP,if he is running the stock 68 cast iron intake and to run the TQ he may have to change the intake to fit the spreadbore TQ.
Not sure if he wants to do that.

As Holley tends to do with some popular carbs that work well, they "aftermarketized" the 1971 383 SuperBee Holley 4160 number into a "universal" model by adding race bowls (dual feed rather than the stock single-feed/transfer tube set-up), electric choke, etc. It's a 750cfm carb with 1.56/1.75 barrel sizes. I ordered one up for the barrel sizes and cfm, possibly for my '70 DH43N0D (as yet not done) upgrade.

Chrysler recommended the Holley 3310 for most of its B/RB "street-use" performance upgraded engines, back then. I think they even had a factory Chrysler part number on one, along with the aluminum Edelbrock intakes, so they'd be legal for stock classes.

Of course, a finessed electric choke AVS2 750cfm would probably work too, plus having a generally "Chrysler look" to it.

Enjoy!

I had to modify my RPM intake for clearance, using the adapter/spacer made the air cleaner hit the hood.

Dana,

Let me know about the 3419 clone. Sounds interesting. The standard 780 is probably the way to go though.

Or EFI :)

Here is that 3419 clone, finished up today.
