Hello,
I have a 1972 Fury 3..I'm looking to purchase new wheels and tires..I would like to have 15x7 on the front and 15x8 on the back. It seems most people are running 235 70 15 on front and 275 60 15 on back for the set up I'm looking at. The wheels I want in the back though only come in 4.25 back spacing. I know most everyone has 4.50 bs..Would this set up work? I called Summit Racing and they have no idea lol. If anyone has this setup please post pics. My other option is to go 235 70 15 all around..Thanks

You could try a 255 width, some truck tires might be 28" tall to match the fronts.
Without trying it with those very distinct quarters I have no idea what fits

I don't have good pics but I temporarily put these 275's on my 300 when my 255 got a lump. These are the summit wheels and I did buy the for my 73 fury. Have not had them on that car yet though.

Ahh brings back good memories of mine I had in the early 80's. I think your car looks great as is.
I do not have any fitment advice for your car. I personally don't think having real big meats in the back would look very good especially since it is a 4 door and the general styling of the car. 255's may look good I don't know. I can tell you I put 15/8's in the back of my 69 Fury III 2 door with 275/60/15 no problem with 4 1/2 inch back spacing. I bought oem steel wheel copies from wheel vintiques .
Good Luck to you and very nice car.

I'm not a purist by any means, but leave that car alone! Just get new tires for the car, it looks great the way it is.

What wheels do you have in mind to replace the stock ones with?

Well, if your not a purist and you wouldn't want to pull off the factory wheels and wheel covers.
What do the purists say? Leave the original oil filter in place?
A guy might be able to get a second set of wheels and tires and run them as his mood changes.
That way when your plowing through winter snow and spring mud, you can the appropriate tires.
Could even have a pair with tire chains already mounted! Ha!

Sure wouldn't be putting a 275 in the rear, unless you're trying to do donuts!

Oil filter for life? Nope.

A second set of shoes makes sense, but I think it's perfect the way it is, the color, the top, and those stock wheels and covers.

I have one car that will be stock, and stay stock, everything else was already modified already when I got them.

Thanks for the info guys..I plan on keeping these wheels and tires just looking for a different look for awhile..If anyone has a 72 please post some pics with wheel and tire sizes. Thanks

I might be somewhat "purist", but I do believe in changing the oil filter as needed (Mopar-sourced or other quality oil filter).

Over the years of being around cars and the people that own/drive them, I've seen people who wanted their car to look "tough" or "powerful" by putting too wide of a tire on them (especially at the rear). Even "frontrunner" wheels on the front (ala serious drag racers of earlier times). Many times, the rear wide tire/wheel combination necessitated the use of longer rear spring shackles (which usually did NOT raise the rear of the car, due to Chrysler's assymetrical rear leaf springs). Usually bent the main leaves into a negative arch! AND, usually with a stock-spec engine (for which the factory tires were completely accurate to convey power to the pavement).

End result, a good bit of money spent without any real benefit for "a better car". That's what I thought back then, too. The best way to "get noticed" with that car is to leave it completely stock, wax it up well, detail it well, tune it well, too. Enjoy it for what it is rather than something it's not nor intended to be.

Having a set of winter tires can be a good idea, depending upon your local weather conditions. BTAIM.

Your car, your money, your time, etc. I suspect, though, that many of us have, over the decades, seem people purchase nice cars and then proceed to "modify" them for one reason or another. Car got trashed, later, as a result. It would make us proud if you were not that person, in the current time frame. You are the current steward of that car's future.

Just some thoughts,

I always thought that quarter looked like it was already flared to fit fat tires. I don't know your year but I bet 275 will fit in the rear just fine and fill it out nicely. Your car is classy with light pain so wheel choice is not easy. One of my current favorite understated wheels is below. You get all 4 for that price so inexpensive too.

Those would look nice. The rear quarters on the 72-72 are definitley swollen but they also have a wider rear axle.
In a week or so my 73 will be closer to home. At that time I can try some different wheels.
When I got my 69 300 it had custom built cop car wheels on it. 8 wide on front and 10 on the rear. They fit good but they need big tires. I may put them back on this summer if I can find a decent handling front tire.
Easier to find a lower profile 15 that fits a seven inch rim.
These cars are way more friendly to drive with some good shocks and lower profile tire. If there is a corner in the road anyways.

When I owned my 2DR 72 Fury III, cell phones weren't around then, so I don't have any pictures of it. I usually ran 225/70R-15 up front and 255/70R-15 out back. The other tires I used 215/65R-15 and 275/60R-15 mounted on steel mopar cop rims.

Both sets of tires fit out back without any issues.

It's sad that this site has become so ridged as far as 'keep it stock's or 'stock is best'. Few people cared about what the current owner did with their big Cbody cars back then. It's great that aftermarket parts are more available than in previous decades (disc brake kits, exhaust systems and such) but...I digress. Enjoy YOUR car, it's a great car!

Yeah I can see that and personally I did not do that with my Fury even though I said his car looked great as is. He asked for our opinion. In any case this modification is reversible as is mine so it is not distressing to anyone here that responded. For me the body style ,being a 4 door, the color and my memories of having basically the very same car [pic above] in the mid 1980's made my opinion. His choice is reversible and I am looking forward to what he settles on.

Thanks I appreciate it..Did you have 8in wheels on the back? Thanks

For a BFG 275/60/15 you really need a 8 inch rim.
Here is a cop wheel Both wheel are around 100 bucks a piece
