Wyatt convinced me to destroy my 71...

hand held soda blaster that uses bicarbonate of soda for the media.
Thanks for the post on the soda blaster. Just checked out a youtube video on the JWLSB2. That thing is awesome.
The underside of my hood needs something like this taken to it.

We had some really nice weather over the weekend. Sunny and low 50's.
On Saturday I took the inner fenders out to the alley and blasted them with the power washer and spraying some degreaser on them. It cleaned them up, but the soda blaster mentioned @78Brougham should clean them up even better. Gotta get one of those.
Later on I cleaned up the oil pan and windage tray for reassembly, and painted some more small engine parts & suspension parts for Sunday's project. After paint, I went over everything again with a high temp clear seal coat.

Sunday turned out to be just as nice as Saturday with warmer temps and plenty of sun. The overhead door went up for another full day.
Earlier in the week Wyatt and I talked about getting the stub frame back together and getting both our engines going, for the upcoming shows and road trip to Carlisle. We both felt this year is already flying by and with the driving season coming up fast, we gotta get moving. We'll get them done, one way or another.
On Sunday Wyatt and I worked on reassembly for the stub frame, getting about 80% bolted up, with mostly the steering linkage left to go before it gets connected to the car. But that will happen after the firewall is cleaned up and the A/C components are updated via @saforwardlook 's recommendations on the new kit available through AC Global.

The new AC kit from AC Global arrived today.
The condenser mounting brackets are slightly different than the OEM equipment, but I'm thinking it'll line up fine.

Yes, that extra support bracket for the incoming line was on all C bodies after 1969, but it rarely helps in preventing that port from breaking off when trying to get that conection loose with a rusty condenser. Just be sure to use two wrenches when you tighten the fitting and there should be no problem. It should mount up fine though.

Can you shot me the link to AC Global plz? Wanna see what they have for my 77. I google it and Risk assessment company come up.. thx

Seems like they do all their business on eBay as seller: ccsautoparts

Its been a while since I posted any updates here, but when finding time in between the business and family I’ve been widdling away on the mundane tasks of cleaning more small parts, nuts and bolts, and painting what’s needed. The most time consuming part of this resto, but it’ll be worth it in the end.
The trusty old wire wheel has been able to bring some of the old rusted parts back to life, to look new again. Keeping 2 to 3 battery chargers going all the time for my Milwaukee hand held drill, and having just about every shape wire wheel made that can be bought out of the big box store is a big help too.
Here’s a few prep pics of the AC lines….

Looking reallly good, Tim....
Something you can be proud of....
I personally know you have been working really hard on getting this done...

I closed up shop yesterday around 2pm and later on Wyatt came over. We got the Stub frame back together, finishing up the linkage and getting the wheels back on. Once the underside of the car is cleaned up, and some POR 15 is applied to the rust prone area’s, it’ll get re-mounted to the body.

As seen in previous posts on this thread, I recently got the AC kit from AC Global, and planned to replace the old parts. That heater box had to come out, but I was hoping the dash didn’t have to too. After talking with Steve in California yesterday, he gave me and Wyatt some good advice over the phone on how to proceed and what to be careful of and what not to break, as these old parts tend to be brittle.

I want to mention here, knowing the FCBO community is probably the best one out there, and its membership is 2nd to none when it comes to first hand knowledge and the willingness to share it with others. Also for the friendships developed off this site since joining.

Wyatt and I were being careful once the dash screws were out and got ready to tip the dash back after the pivot bolts were loosened. With a little maneuvering the box came out in one piece and nothing got damaged. When disconnecting everything from under the dash a tag from the assembly line was found, hand written and dated by Brad H, on 10/08/1970. Pretty cool finding stuff like this in a 49 year old car.

I will be getting the heater core from AC Global and replace that too, knowing I sure as hell don’t want to have to take the box out again to replace the heater core anytime soon. May as well do it now while its out.

The inner fenders that recently came back from the powder coater will look nice when they go back in. Yesterday I bought a soda blaster and will be tackling the firewall once I build a tent around the front of the car. I tried it out yesterday on a small area, and it cleaned up really nice, but there was media everywhere in no time at all.
I’ll be working on finishing up the tent for the media blaster, re-install the heater box once everything has been received from AC Global clean up the crank with Emory cloth. The heads are coming back from the machine shop next week with the freshly hot tanked HP manifolds. Next is build the 440 and have it ready for break in.
