Wyatt convinced me to destroy my 71...

I am very glad the evaporater fits as it should, as that is what I expected based on how well the condenser fit in my car - a great match!

Tim, when installing your heater box foam be careful around mounting bosses for the blend doors. they can be very brittle and can crack and break off. Most susceptible is the dash vents blend door. If they do break I have a pattern to make a steel replacements. To glue on the foam I have used 3M 90 Adhesive w/ great results.

Will be interested in seeing the whole heater box bolted back together with all parts. From the other 'heated' thread, I said this aftermarket stuff just doesn't quite fit in there. The one I got fit by itself as well but did not fit with a heater core and would not allow the case halves to bolt back together.

Does the company you bought your evaporator from also make heater cores for our C bodies like this company under discussion does? If so, show me the link.

I bought an aftermarket heater core that was of poor quality, so I had my OEM one rebuilt from a local old timer. The evap wouldn't fit with either of those heater cores.

So the "fits all" evaporator that you bought didn't fit with what should have been a correct heater core when rebuilt by an old timer - what does that prove about the evaporator made by AC Global? A company that builds most all of the components for our specific cars will likely do a much better systems engineering job than the "fits all" companies that make just certain components that fit many models.

Dude, I never said I bought a fits all, not sure where you got that. I bought a direct fit replacement that did not fit. For both evap and heater core.
You must be part owner of this company since you've kept on it for months.

So the components you bought were specifically designed to bolt right into your car with no modifications (why not just show us the link(s) to what you bought)? I used that term only because I have never seen a direct fit bolt in with no modifications besides the parts from this company. You don't seem to appreciate how rare it is for a company to make exact fit parts for our specific cars given the volumes involved here. I keep on this because guys like you don't seem to appreciate how rare and encouraging this is for a change. So you continue to be a problem for those of us that want exact fit replacement components by continuting to sow doubt when it isn't warranted at this point, thereby potentially diminishing this company's chances for success (keep in mind this is the premier site for C body guys, so if sales don't come from this group because of your negative nellie efforts, then the business will not succeed and that leaves us in the mess that you seem to like for some reason instead). What is your motive for wanting to hamper a business like this that gives us what we need for a change? Why not just wait for the results to come in before denouncing them with no basis? I can't even find a condenser anywhere that would bolt in to one of our cars that even though it claims to fit our cars, doesn't without considerable modification - their own photos in such listings show they won't work without modification. I don't understand why you are trying to disparage a U.S. based company making parts here in the U.S. for our specific vehicles, thereby affecting their ability to survive and continue to do what they do.

If you like the hassles you have had with the stuff you have bought, go for it and help make China prosper. I am not going to waste any more time on your stuff - you just don't get it.

I've ordered the heater core from AC Global and it should be here with in a week, providing their deliveries continue to go out from California.
@furious7 When reading your post ….

I decided to do a test fit with the new evaporator and use my old heater core. When placing the HC over the box with the new evaporator in, the steel shim that connects seems to fit pretty well, and with the old HC in place, the box will seal.
I hope you're wrong about the two boxes sealing properly when the new heater core arrives. But for now I have to wait until it arrives.
When it does, I'll do another test fit for all to see.

After checking the heater box fitment, I continued to finish the firewall up, removing the remaining undercoating and any surface rust with the wire wheel.
Note: I mentioned in a previous post I would use a vinyl wire wheel for this step. From my initial attempt , the vinyl wheel only melted the undercoating and found out it started to make a mess pretty quickly, so I finished using a metal wheel instead.
Once that was done, and the surface was scuffed using scotch brite pad, I applied the zinc chromium primer.
If our Shelter at Home Order in Illinois makes for a slow week at the office, I'll probably paint the firewall if time allows.

You guys are an inspiration. Certainly appreciate your efforts.. thx

Had some time to work on the firewall today, and just finished up.
After applying the zinc chromate last night. With this slow down in the economy, now would be a good time to work on finishing up the firewall.
I had some support bars that still needed to be cleaned an painted, so they were finished first. Next some sanding primer was applied to the firewall,, and after it dried and sanded, the rattle can crystal dawn metallic was sprayed. This should look nice with the 440 back in it....

Looks great! Did you spray the firewall with a rattle can?

The firewall, and all the other parts I have painted so far has been rattle canned. There used to be a place in the next town over from me that would make any paint to mfg color codes, but they closed up shop about a year or so ago. I was able to find the GY5 color needed by searching the net, and then finding it for sale on eBay by the seller: colormyauto1 ,being sold in spray cans. Their paint is kind of pricey, but since you can't buy this color off the shelf at a paint store, it seemed like a good option.
The last time I sprayed the inside of a doghouse was on my 69 Road Runner. Everything was sprayed black. Back then that was the thing to do, instead of matching hemi orange body color. I was probably 19 or 20 at the time. A a couple decades later, I'm doing it again, but taking my time.

Tim, on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being exact match, how would you rate the color match from colormyauto1 with the original GY5 color on the parts of your car that are still original paint (buffed and clean to show the original color best)?
