I figured that I should start a thread on my re-assemblage of Elwood.

I picked up him in December 2018 in Cherokee, Iowa. Drove him onto the trailer and got him home.

Basic 318 2BBL, torq-flite (I will verify - the fender tag states so - thanks @detmatt for decoding, those decoder sites had be having a resentment due to the character fonts and spaces for the fields).
The car is in fair shape and it might indeed have 71k on the clock.
I have rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel pump and am in the middle of replacing the wheel cylinders, master cylinder and have replaced the right rear hard brake line.
I have commitments that keep me away from my shop and will work on him when I can.
While I can’t be wrenching on him a lot, I am doing some research and accumulating some components I will install when time permits.
I will post some pictures tomorrow.

I am grateful for this forum and salute all of you who have shared so much knowledge!

Who doesn’t like a story or rebuild with a car named Elmwood?! Best of luck to you and your car! I may need to binge watch some blues brother this weekend.

Well, I have finally come up for air long enough to get some information on Elwood and post a couple of pictures.
Over the last 8 months, I have been away from Elwood. I got to spend a few hours wrenching on him this past weekend.
I installed the washer bottle I had bought on flea-bay. I also had to procure a pump. I picked one up @ Auto-zone. I verified that 12 vdc was present at the brown wire emerging from the harness to the driver’s side headlights. After removing the original washer bottle, I removed a large pile of leaves, small branches and several corn cobs that were jammed in between the washer bottle, headlights and battery.

I spliced a 6” lead on the 1” of wire that was left coming out of the bundle and added an insulated 1/4” spade female socket to the extension. I also added a female spade connector to the ground wire that was attached to one of the mounting holes on the original washer bottle and transferred it to the new bottle.
I mounted the washer bottle and filled it with H2O, did a test and it worked. I will have to replace the broken hose from the driver’s side to passenger side squirted, as the original hose was broken.

I then removed and installed the voltage regulator that I procured from @FURYGT . I transferred the u shaped retaining bracket from the original voltage regulator to the new one. I ran Elwood for about 20 minutes and he ran well.
I also placed the new mini-starter I purchased from flea-bay and the adapter I bought in the trunk, for a future time. Below are a couple of pictures.

(I also fired up Shamu - purrs wonderfully)
I believe that I have a 904 transmission in Elwood, based on the picture attached, which is in conflict with the fender tag decode that @detmatt did for me. (I tried and tried to use several decoders, and all they did was frustrate me. The damn spaces that I had to put in the decoder website is a bunch of CRAP!). I believe that the picture is all I need for validation.
If I am wrong, I will learn that the next time I work on Elwood (in about a month), when I look at the pan and search for a stamp Or casting characters on it.

It’s probably a 904 unless it was a fleet type vehicle.

Collecting components for Elwood & Shamu...

1968 was the first year the 904 was put behind a C body 318.
727 was optional with towing package and as mentioned fleet services
My 68 VIP had the 318/904 combo
Our 318 69 Fury III was ordered with the 727.
Cheers

Today, I finally received the clocks that I ordered from Smith’s Classic Clocks back in March.
They are for Elwood (68 Fury II 4 door sedan) and Shamu (69 Fury III vert).
I will bench test them prior to installation.
An AM/FM radio also will go in Elwood (after I have it modified to add Bluetooth).

Checked out both clocks today and they work. I had to adjust the set gear (the one on the end of the adjustment shaft) on the 68 clock as it had slipped a bit.
I will check it again when the knobs arrive.

I am preparing to replace a quarter panel on Elwood (68 Fury 4 door sedan). Is there an equivalent to a factory assembly manual (They exist for other cars) that shows how the body panels are attached?
I have the factory service manual and I am unsure if there is additional documentation.
Thank you in advance!

Try the www.hamtramck-historical.com library as they have lots of '68 information listed, hopefully one of which is what you require. Other thought is contact quality restoration shops as they "should" have knowledge of '68 Mopar body construction - must have been similar for a few years despite what Mopar it was. Car looks great- good luck.

Are you installing a full OEM quarter, partial quarter, or aftermarket patch panel?

If full quarter, is it an NOS panel or used cut-off?

Jeff

Unusual that you got a clean quarter from Ohio.

I may have some photos that will help your project. I'll take a look and see if any of them would be of use.

Going to start on converting the clock (and do the clock on Shamu’s 69 Fury III vert too).

I bought the clocks (68 on the left, 69 on the right), knobs and the quartz conversion kits. According to Instrument Services, Inc., both clocks need the same kit.
I will post progress on both of them as I progress, here.

Got the kit installed in the clock housing.
Works with clip leads on the post (+) and the ground strap (-).
It appears that I need to scuff / burnish the inside of the case, but that will be after I sleep...
