So I had the carb rebuild about 3 months ago. Have driven about 5 -6 times no issues with carb. Today all of a sudden I turn the car on and I have it idling waiting for it to heat up to check oil before leaving. I see that the entire area under carb is full of gas. While idling the gas is flooding carb. I took the top off cleanned it with spray put it back together. Still floodding. 2 barrel 383 engine 65 newport. Any ideas on what it could be.

Check the float, it may be fuel logged. Take off the top of the carb and remove the float and shake it to test for fuel. Also check the brass seat for the needle valve to be sure the gasket is in place and the seat is screwed in tightly. If you have not done so already also inspect the seat on the needle valve for debris, rust specs etc that could be preventing the seat and needle from sealing properly.

Unhook the choke,see what happens..
Recent rebuild? snug up all the screws on the body of carb.

Carter BBD or Stromberg WWC? The Carter will have a heavy wire structure with the air cleaner stud trapped in it. The Stromberg will have the air cleaner stud screwed into it, as might be expected.

Just curious,

Tap the top of the carb with a screw driver handle where the fuel inlet is. It's possible the needle/seat is stuck. Sometimes it can be loosened with some taps.

It has the air cleaner stub screwed into the middle of the carb. So I would guess based on your description Stromberg. If that help, I dont know the different between what you said.

Two completely different design carburetors. Carter BBD is a metering rod/jet carb and the Stromberg is a fixed-jet carb (no metering rods) Neither was prone to leaking fuel on the intake manifold unless something was wrong. Where was the leak coming from? Loose fuel line inlet connection? The bowl vent on the top of the carb? From the throttle plate shaft? Any fuel smell in the motor oil?

Thanks,
CBODY67

Over flowing from the bowl area. I took the top off and cleaned it with carb cleaner spray. Put the top back on. After that I turned on the car and when I would step on the pedal gas came out of a nipper on top I think its a vent.

Did you check the float and operation of the needle/seat while you had the top off? It is very possible the needle/seat is not functioning properly or you have a pinhole in your float causing it to sink and not maintain the proper fuel level in the bowl.

One other option is you have a fuel pump that is putting out more psi than the needle/seat can handle causing constant fuel flow. Is the pump new? You can try a different pump or an inline fuel pressure regulator.

Hey Rex! Yer inbox is full. I have a question for you about convertible top lift piston removal. Rip

What's the procedure for fixing a throttle shaft leak? Is there a kit with bushing for that or? Just noticed mine leaking this afternoon, arghh.
