The infamous 4-spd 76 New Yorker. Ask me anything.

If you could narrow it down, what was the single biggest PITA of the conversion?

How did you accomplish this remarkable feat right under the noses of your HOA Nazi's?

Allow me please, where did you aquire the car and why that one?
I was always a C-body guy. It's a stretch, but it goes back to when my grandfather came home with his new 57 DeSoto 2 dr hdtp.
After selling my 66 Fury 4 spd, I got it in my head I HAD to have at St. Regis having fallen in love with them in the 70's. Long search online. Found an expired ad in an obscure car selling site for what I wanted exactly. A white/white/burgundy 76 NYB. it was in a "collection" being thinned out from Salt Lake City. 500 bucks above my 25-hundred limit (that's the origin of the joke, btw) but I bought it really know absolutely nothing about Formals.
SO..
1. I acquired the car out of a collection being thinned out in SLt Lake City
from months searching online from an obscure car site. $3,000.00.
2. I WANTED specifically a St Regis a white/white/burgundy cloth and there it was... :)

The clutch mechanism from pedals to throw out bearing. Nothing from 65-73 could be applied here.
Everything elso dropped in perfectly without mods.

I did my thing during the day. The driveway was spotless by 5:00. No work on the weekends. I tried my best to be a great neighbor. The neighbors thought I was nuts but was nice and always waved hi.

I searched the dock and couldn't find much, just a few pics. You must have done the thread on Fins, which isn't there anymore. Was that dash the worst part of the job?

Was the original intent to build a four speed with a sweetened 440?
If not , How did that come to be?
Nope. Absolutely not.
After awhile, after know nothing about Formals, I realized that despite the money I threw in it, it would never be more than a 25-hundred car (hence the joke).
I grew up in the era of FULL-SIZED RWD V8 4 SPEED cars that I became addicted to. Think: Biscayne, Galaxies, Starfire, Wildcats, 300's, etc.
I came to a point where I was at a crossroads on where to go with the car.
And it started... I spent several months researching and thought long and hard about how weird this would be. Would you put a four speed in a Town car? :realcrazy::realcrazy::realcrazy:
I finally got the balls up to do it and when I dropped the 727 and sold it the next day to a guy in South America :wtf:
, I said, Well, it's too late now...

It started back on a very old Mopar site called Mass Mopars. After the owner of the site died, so did the forum. From there, almost all the work was documented on MoparFins in it's own thread.
The dash was something that made me hate the project.

What transmission did you use? Where did it come from ?
Where did you source the pedals from ?
Why did you choose those pedals?

TRANSMISSION : A883 from a 66 Fury.
CAME FROM: Steve Hobby, owner of Mopar Fins.
PEDALS: A Frankenstein hybrid fab of a Formal and Jeep pedals.
WHY THOSE: I examined as many clutch pedal setups as I could find and the Jeep appeared it would be a good match.
