New, with a '77 Newport

C.T.A. Rail. I spent 25 years with them. The first 12 as a repairman, the last 13 as an Instructor teaching new repairmen how to fix them.

Very cool, I'm a conductor.

Welcome. Nice car. Sounds like your buddy's farm is close to me, I'm west of Beloit wisconsin.

Thanks! Small world isn't it? Hes on County C just north of Sharon, and I have family in Janesville

We can work both on the BN. Aurora to Chicago Metra stuff or freight. I spent the last 8 years on passenger and I'm working as a switchman at Eola Yard now for a change of pace for a bit.
An awful lot of repairmen left CTA and went to Metra.

I remember that car well, I was at the Steve heitman auction too. I liked that color blue but it wasn't a Plymouth or dodge so I had to pass. Glad it went to a good home.

Thanks guys, much appreciated! Wish I had known about the auction if not just to have spent a day seeing all those cool cars.

Worked out in the end as I got it at a pretty good discount from what the fellas paid for it there.

Since it's the middle of winter and any real work is still a few months out, I did some ebay exercise today and picked a few things up.

Since in Illinois, one of the about 3 cool things we're allowed to do, is run year of manufacture plates, I grabbed these,

Then found a cool '77 brochure for 9 bucks, so why not

Getting together my RockAuto shopping cart for spring maintenance, along with the Lean Burn conversion stuff from elsewhere. Can't wait to actually get started

That is a gorgeous Newport - extremely unique survivor. Take care of her and post more pictures when you can.

Thank you! It does seem to be a bit different than many I've seen. I know the Newport was more of the "mooch" model in Chryslers lineup, but this one seems to be pretty stripped, with a few choice options.

I will definitely post a whole lot more when I finally can get started. Trust me I'm climbing the walls just waiting for the weather to break!

Got some stuff in the other day. My catalog and '77 license plates showed up.

Plates are in pretty good shape but were absolutely filthy so I decided to see how much I could bring them back. Used a bit of comet then finished with a wash and some wax, they look nice!

Wow, welcome and congrats! That is a beautiful Newport. Also, I like the 1977 Catalogue, as a have the same one sitting on my shelf. Looking forward to hearing about your lean-burn conversion and what it requires, as I'm hoping to do the same on mine in the coming months.
Good luck!

Thanks so much! I will definitely update this as I go along. Currently 19 with 25-30 mile an hour winds and snow so waiting for a bit of a thaw here!

Welcome @Georges77 -- great car! Hope that you, @traintech55 and @haywire 440 can join the small caravan lined up for Illinois River Run in three months (May 2) and the 5th Midwest C-body Show in late June!

Wow, I did nearly the same route with my '75 Oldsmobile this summer, I'll definitely be there, sounds like a blast!

You definitely need to make the show that will be at the rail museum this year.

Did a little junkyarding today, at a friend's property. He's a demo guy with some cool stuff around, had a couple Newports I grabbed some odds and ends off of. Got a non lean burn air cleaner assembly as well which I was very happy to find.

Going to grab the wheels off the white one, once we can get it out of the mud. Nice day.

Welcome George! Congrats on the Newport.

You’ll find us very welcoming and usually helpful.

I know you just got here but.....

if you’re headed back for parts this weekend, I could sure use the Chrysler script emblem off the headlight door of that white New Yorker. I just painted mine and damned if I didn’t lose it somewhere.

Thanks and again, Welcome

Javier.
