Does anyone have a few pics of what a 1971 383 4 barrel motor would look like completely stock in a 71 Dodge Polara? With the breather assembly etc.... Just wanting a few for reference. Thanks

Wyatt has the 383-4 Washington Police car that I let him buy  .

My 383-4 is a 70, that won't work for you.

Its not the greatest reference...

Those are 196969 and older valve covers also.

That Unsilenced air cleaner was last used in 1969.

Those have Standpipe for the oil breather-filler on Left and PCV only on right.

should and the 1/4 turn oil filler and breather on right and PCV only on left.

Thanks for the replies. Just wanting a few references on what one would like. I’m building a 400 for my Polara and plan on trying to make it look stock or has stock has possible. Will probably make a few changes in appearance etc.... I do have the motor completely apart right now. And now I’m figuring out a plan for a build don’t know if I’m gonna stroke it or just build without stroking. Gonna be a long build either way. But I think it will be cheaper to just build the 400 without stroking it. And I think I can get the 400 to run good without stroking it.

I once pulled a manufactured in 1971 400 HP out of a 69 Polara 500. I put it in my 71 Polara 4 Dr sedan with hooker headers and a Thermoquad carb.
The legend is probably better than the engine was but to this day that was my favorite engine.

Here's some what look to be original 1971 Polara BB engine bay shots.

Then some Furys that I don't think will be much different. (fussy on the 4bbl are'ya?)

383? now you say 400 so these are some 1972 Fury 400 nice shots.

My 1970 DH43N0D (Federal Emissions) has Chrysler Blue paint, Carter AVS 4732, factory a/c, HP exhaust manifolds (w/factory dual exhaust--mentioned for good measure), dual snorkle air cleaner in crinkle black paint. The upper fuel line follows the rh inner side of the valve cover from the fuel filter to the wh rear of the carb, basically. PCV is on the lh valve cover, as the breather and oil filler cap are on the rh valve cover.

I bought that car in 1975 at the local Chrysler dealer as it was a trade-in on a '75 Charger SE, by the daughter of the original owner. It had about 83K miles on it and was unmolested, as it still is.

In the www.hamtramck-historical.com website, in the "Library" and Dealer Order Guide listings, there should be some pictures of the engines. As there also might be in some of the other literature in that website, too.

To me, all a Chrysler 400 needs is more compression. An easy fix with some ported and 1.74" exhaust-valved 1967 heads and thin head gaskets?

Enjoy!
