Has anyone had a problem with Year One exhaust manifolds cracking? My passenger side (mechanic says) is "probably cracked" due to it being a 493 & heat riser not open all the way ( due to a smaller diameter headpipe ). It's only 5 years old.

:wtf:........and here I have a new one coming. Shoulda checked that first.

Annnddd as BJohn says..
Almost every time there is an exhaust manifold problem
it can be traced back to gasket use....
QUIT TRYING TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT DOES NOT EXSIST.....:rolleyes:

IF the factory exh manifold bolts are not used, sometimes the desire to cinch-down the manfold to the cyl head makes things a bit too solid. End result, as the manifold heats and cools, the metal expands and then contracts. IF the torque is too great on the bolts and/or they have no flat washer ("heat washer") under the bolt head, the manifold can't move under the bolt head, resulting in a crack over time. If the engine is run hard a good bit, building more heat in the exhaust, it can happen sooner than later, by observation. At least that's what we saw on Chevy 454s, especially after the locking tabs and heat washers went somewhere!

Enjoy!
