I recently stumbled across this 1967 drop top Newport online and that red is absolutely stunning! I’m unsure if this is a factory color or not though. Would it be scorch red? I thought scorch red was a little lighter.... I’d really appreciate any help ID’ing this beautiful color! I’d love to paint my 68 this exact color. Also any help on finding where to purchase it! Many thanks to all

I found other pics of that car several years ago, except a rear view on the same driveway, which I saved as the pic on my old laptop. It's more Turbine Bronze than red. By observation, as in on my '67 CE23 with factory Turbine Bronze paint, it has a more red tint than when new, as it has aged over the years.

Scorch Red is what the '66 300 in the 1966 sales brochure is, which is a non-metallic red that is darker than a normal red is. A beautiful color, especially when paired with the white top and such in the 1966 sales brochure. That one pic of the 300 in Scorch Red, parked in front of a small fire department is classic!

Enjoy!

Here's what I would do... Well, a couple of things actually.

First is I would walk into my local paint shop and look at color charts. Never, ever, never depend on computer images, photographs, catalogs etc. for colors. Look at the color chips. If you aren't looking to match an old color, you can save some money by using their generic paint colors.

The other thing I would do is look at these guys or someplace similar for paint, getting an idea and calling them for a color chip(s) of the paint you want. Urethane Basecoat Paint Low VOC

Paint work is big $$ these days. A lot of prep work can be done yourself first to save some cash, or you can even try doing it yourself. Stick with a simple color if you go that route so you can screw up and redo panels as needed.

It's looks a little too red to be Spanish Red. According to Big John's link, Spanish Red wasn't available in 67.

It's still a great color.

Looks like same car, different angle with more light on the deck lid. Looks like Turbine Bronze, as I know it, to me.

Enjoy!
