Are these carbs made by Weber or by another company for the USA market. If different, does anyone know of any compatibility issues between the 2?

Mine is stamped as a Weber, I'm wondering if this could be why my rebuild failed.

I ordered a new USA version from Dana Port but so far it doesn't seem to have shipped. Anyone else used this vendor?

Are you saying that you ordered one from me?

Back when Federal-Mogul bought the orig Carter Carb Co out of bankruptcy, they chose to break it up and sell the parts rather than seek to revitalize it. At that time in the earlier 1980s or earlier, Carter the company was "over with", so to speak. No new products, just "old stuff", with the newest being the somewhat troublesome ThermoQuad 4bbl. "Weber" bought the company and sold about TWO carburetors, both fit Chevy 327s as I recall, as OEM carbs for the repro industry. NO Chrysler carbs.

Then Edelbrock bought the rights to the AFBs and went from there. Allegedly Edelbrock improved some things (possibly in the adaptation of the molds and such), it was claimed. First carbs were more universal than not, BUT they found a home in the Mopar community! And some of the '60s Chevy people, too. After they were doing well with the AFBs, I remember being at Mopar Nats one year and hearing a conversation that "I wish they'd do an AVS", as the AFBs only went so far with their use by Chrysler. I understood the sentiment and sent Edelbrock an email that they should consider doing some Mopar AVS carbs, too. When the first word of the "new" AVS came out, I was glad to see it (a few years later), but was underwhelmed to see that it was a universal-fit GM carb, basically. If they'd done a 625 and 750 AVS for a 1970 model year application, that would have been great, but that was not to happpen.

Seems like I remember hearing that some of the Weber AFBs had quality issues. Which I hated to hear, but as they were Chevy AFBs, not a big issue to me, with just two part numbers at that time. The Weber AFBs were a short-lived situation, that I know of. Perhaps others might add something to the story?

Enjoy!

If your website is danaport.com, then yes sir I did. Order #77001133206 and have only had an order confirmation so far. any update would be appreciated.

No sir, not my site. I haven’t heard of them either. Edelbrock molds were sold to Weber then magnetti-morelli. Same AFB carb as when Carter did the manufacture.

That information is very helpful as I tried to rebuild my (Weber) carb with a standard kit - I was thinking I had lost the plot when I couldn't do such an easy task. As I said, going for a new carb to avoid the issues, and if - one day - I can find the right kit, I will grab an intake manifold and shove the Weber onto my Chevy 350 :) but that's another long story...

I'm glad we cleared that up. I just might cancel the order if it doesn't ship tomorrow and will go to O'Reilly and pay a bit more ($100 or so) just to get back on track. I like this car a lot and am impatient to get it running right, at least. :)
For today though, I got the smoker going and also a few beers - as is required when smoking...

Do you have a picture of this carb? Every Edelbrock 1406, 1407, 1411 carb I've seen, no stamp, magnetti-morelli, whatever, has been the same carb body with the same basic parts inside. The sizes of the rods, and the jets may be different between the different sizes, but they all use the same gaskets, and floats.

here's a couple, if you'd like other angles I can snap a couple

Carter,Weber,Magnetti-Morelli,I've had them all with those names cast in the main body.
Just got a new Edelbrock AVS2 and it now has Edelbrock name cast in it.
What ever name is, I have no problem with.Still my favorite carb.

I thought somebody was messing with stickers. I have a carb on my shelf with Weber cast in it but an eddy sticker on the front.

I have had 3-4 Eddy carbs in teh last 20 years, prolly from 2000-2010, and had the Weber cast into them.
Only issue I had was with a 750 that I couldn't tune right.
Did a lot of web-reading and found I was not alone.

... Allegedly Edelbrock improved some things (possibly in the adaptation of the molds and such), it was claimed. ......Seems like I remember hearing that some of the Weber AFBs had quality issues. ...
That aligns with what I heard, that they did some scaling of some mold features between carb sizes and it didn't fare well on the 750.
I learned working with a genius-level fanblade designer that you cannot simply scale some things from 1 size to another, that the physics of airflow isn't linear.

But I cannot assert that is what happened with that carb, that is only my speculation.

There is a throttle cable adapter made specifically for us. It will move the throttle cable closer to the fender, and get the KD linkage away from the throttle. Saves a lot of grief, the KD and throttle linkage can be a fussy PITA if things aren't within the adjustment range.

whatever carb you use hookup your kickdown linkage or you will be smoking something else.
Cheers for the heads up. I was only trying to get her running at this stage. She is still a ways away from being driven.
All advise is good advise though, so thanks again to everyone who is helping me :D :)
