Ordered an upper and lower radiator hose at RockAuto for my 69 Fury. Lower should be fine but the upper hose is actually a mirror image from what I need. From the thermostat housing it is molded to go to the drivers side of the radiator and I need one that goes to the passenger side. Bottom hose is fine. Originally the car was a 383 with AC. It is now a 440 with no AC compressor. [Hope to get it going one day] Are upper hoses on different sides [passenger or driver] if AC or not?
Thanks

What year is your rod here? To the best of my paltry knowledge, the presence or absence of AC doesn't change how the cooling system topography is laid, but I drive a slab side. Those funky Formals w their weird water pump housings certainly are laid out differently than my '66! The only reference I've seen in all the part shopping I've done in pursuit of the Ultimate Cooling system is for whether or not you run an LA block or B/RB block engine. LA motors have their top hose on the opposite side from B/RBs, as in, the driver side up top, passenger down low, though the older stuff just has both hoses more toward the middle.

Be this as it may, my ignorance doesn't preclude Ma Par doing something like you suspect regarding the presence or absence of AC. I gave up on molded hoses for Mathilda. Tried them out, but they were too collapse prone and also are rigidly defined for ONE setup. Hope you get a good setup....

All of my factory a/c 383 C-body cars have the upper hose that goes to the rh side of the radiator from the thermostat housing. Even with a "cut here" line for some applications, that is not used. All have the replacement radiator in them that has the upper hose attachment on the rh side of things, too.

The a/c upper hose looks just like some of the E-body upper hoses that go to the rh upper side of the radiator, too.

Enjoy!

Here is the hose I received.

So your saying the radiator I have is a 22 inch not a 26 inch?? Or are you saying from the driver point of view the 22" rad hose enters the rad on the drivers side and the 26" rad on the passenger side...

Being an AC car it should be and is a 26" radiator. A tow package car would also be a 26". Non AC cars got the 22". I agree with cat, that looks like a hose for a 22" radiator.

If you cannot find one specifically for your car the top hose on a 68 goes to the passenger side. Here are the upper hoses listed on RA. Maybe one of them is the same as one listed for your car. That would confirm that it goes to the passenger side.

My 69 has a 440 but not an original radiator.. But it is 26 and it does have a passenger side opening. I used Gates 20630.

Rockauto seems to have run out of stock of the correct molded hose (Gates #20630).
As I see it, the three best options are:
Gates #20630 (440HP), L=16”,
Continental #60664, L=18” or
Continental #60665 (Imperial), L=22”
However, the Gates part seems only to be available on eBay at the moment. Starting at +$21 plus shipping.

Using "LEFT" or "RIGHT" when it comes to car parts can be confusing. Counting out the friends in UK, Australia and other RHD countries, I strongly suggest to use "Driver's side" and "Passenger Side" instead.

Thanks to all for your help and thoughts. I do appreciate it. I will be returning the hose back[gates 20364] to Rock Auto and exchange it for a Continental 60664.
