Hey guys new member. Just bought my first C-body (long time b-body owner) and im extremely impressed. I’ve wanted one for a while and this just fell in my lap.

it’s a 1971 Chrysler New Yorker 2dr Sunroof 440 car. J4 green with dark green interior with a super cool pattern that I’ve never seen before. Mostly rust free, 44k original mile 2 owner car with some great documentation.

Curious as to where i might find out some productions numbers and how rare this c body is. Anyone ever seen those seats before? It’s the best riding Mopar I’ve ever driven. Here’s some photos, thanks!

Very seldom does a newbie on FCBO get the "you suck!" greeting! And this is 100% a compliment, BTW. Ask anyone on this forum. What a stunning car! Cool green combo with sunroof and 440 goodness. Excellent score, congrats! And welcome aboard!

Looks like a nice car.

Apparently I'm always sitting in the wrong spot...

At this point in life I wouldn't know how to act if I stumbled into "the right spot". I'm sure it'd happen at the wrong time. :D

First, Welcome!

:usflag:

Second, You Suck!

Third, Wow, Wow, Wow!

Happy Fourth: Thanks for sharing this incredible find. I feel like I've seen this one before, let's here some more details! As far as production numbers, only a few know for sure, but they are low. There is a Sunroof Registry, I'm sure someone will chime in.

CH23T1C122977 is a rare bird (sunroof car), and GJ4 is a fantastic one-year-only color. Congratulations!!!

@saforwardlook and I teamed up to acquire an FQ5 turquoise Newport with sunroof a year and a half ago. He is restoring it in California, and the thread that I started about that car should contain some information that you may find useful. He has a lot of experience with sunroof C-bodies. (Edit: I see that your car has the H53 AutoTemp option, which is fixable starting in MY 1971 -- again, he should have lots of experience and good advice in case you want to get the A/C back on).

@Tobias74 bought a U-code 1971 sunroof New Yorker a few years back, but I do not know what has since happened to CH23U1C124105 . I am also aware of a red 1971 NYer with sunroof ( CH23T1C175483 ) that sold back in 2014 -- as noted, those cars are few and far between. Moving to 300 sunroof cars, @sportsuburbangt sold a blue one that is now in Sweden (I believe that it is owned by @Hansson72 ).

There is a sunroof registry that @sdweatherman maintains -- I do not think that your car is in his list of 1971 sunroof Chryslers known to have survived, so you may want to give him a heads up about your car to have it added.

Cheers! @ceebuddy @Imperial Pete @Tobias74 @69CoronetRT

Great score! That is a really nice NYer. You are correct in stating that these cars ride so nice. I had a “72 Fury Gran Coupe with similar front seats. They were so comfortable. Have fun with your new ride.

I saw that you had bought that gem on the weekend when Manny @70 Sport Suburban informed me your post on Facebook displaying it to the world. GJ4 is one of my favorite colors. You surely scored!

I was hoping you might join this site since I am a fan of those cars and still have 4 left myself including the Newport joint venture that Ayilar and I have (I sold my 1971 Imperial sunroof car to a friend in Australia who proceeded to restore it completely).

The 1971 Imperial restoration was highlighted in this former post:

My 1971 Imperial Factory Sunroof 2 Door Coupe

I have one 1971 Chrysler New Yorker sunroof car myself and it too is low miles (38K I recall) and is Lemon Twist with a white vinyl top and white bucket seat interior like yours and a U code 440HP. I am the car's first titled owner since it was previously ordered and owned by a dealer owner named Phil Rauch in Burbank California who never registered it in his name and always drove it around on a dealer plate. According to his son, it was his favorite car of all time.

My other two are both Chrysler 300s - one is Tahitian Walnut and the other is Aztec Gold (a U code 440HP car).

Welcome to the site and as Ayilar mentioned, there are plenty resources here to help you with your New Yorker. By the way, does your sunroof currently work OK?

This car is beautiful! I would love to know how it "fell in your lap?" It has everything I would want. The J4 is awesome in the sun! Jealous..... :(

Thanks everyone for the info and kind words! A Facebook friend of mine who’s fairly local (2 hours west of me) asked if I was going to Chrysler Carlisle this week. We started talking and he said he had a big sunroof c body he was taking to sell for his father. I mentioned always wanting one as a driver and told him to send a photo. Once I saw how cool it was (and heard the price) I told him if he delivered it I would take it and save him the trip to Carlisle. Next thing I knew it was in my garage!

You really lucked out on your first C body! Greetings from a fellow '71 New Yorker sunroof car owner. 1971 New Yorker 2 door production was just over 5000, less than 5% would have received the sunroof. I also believe most sunroof cars were optioned with the super cool, all vinyl buckets, in case, you know, you leave the sunroof open, and it rains. Excellent car, sounds like you are enjoying and appreciating it!
