4th of July buy! 1971 New Yorker sunroof 440

Thanks everyone for the info and kind words! A Facebook friend of mine who’s fairly local (2 hours west of me) asked if I was going to Chrysler Carlisle this week. We started talking and he said he had a big sunroof c body he was taking to sell for his father. I mentioned always wanting one as a driver and told him to send a photo. Once I saw how cool it was (and heard the price) I told him if he delivered it I would take it and save him the trip to Carlisle. Next thing I knew it was in my garage!

It seems many times when I want to really buy something, I have to go through Hell and back. Someone is watching over you!

You really lucked out on your first C body! Greetings from a fellow '71 New Yorker sunroof car owner. 1971 New Yorker 2 door production was just over 5000, less than 5% would have received the sunroof. I also believe most sunroof cars were optioned with the super cool, all vinyl buckets, in case, you know, you leave the sunroof open, and it rains. Excellent car, sounds like you are enjoying and appreciating it!

Is your car on the sunroof website and if so which one? Are you holding out on us or did I miss something? Did you buy one of the ones Tobias had??

Welcome to the forum from a couple hours away in Connecticut! :welcome:, for the 4th maybe 5th time "you suck" (now ya see what we mean). I wish any ol C-body especially a car like that would fall into my lap like that, :(. Congratulations on your purchase! :) I REALLY hope to see it this weekend in Carlisle

Hey guys new member. Just bought my first C-body (long time b-body owner) and im extremely impressed. I’ve wanted one for a while and this just fell in my lap.

it’s a 1971 Chrysler New Yorker 2dr Sunroof 440 car. J4 green with dark green interior with a super cool pattern that I’ve never seen before. Mostly rust free, 44k original mile 2 owner car with some great documentation.

Curious as to where i might find out some productions numbers and how rare this c body is. Anyone ever seen those seats before? It’s the best riding Mopar I’ve ever driven. Here’s some photos, thanks!

Haha appreciate the love everyone. I wish I was bringing it to Carlisle but I already have my A12 Superbee ready to go and registered to the show field !

Could you send us a few pictures so we know what car to look for? I’m sure we don’t like to meet you as well, maybe you could swing by for our 10 o’clock Saturday morning group picture. I’ll let someone else mentioned the location, since I am a little vague on it myself. LOL

It's in the registry, blue with white top and interior, under collector in Alberta. I've owned it for over five years now. It has over 100,000 miles, and wears a worn out repaint. Front and rear windows are out right now for rust repair.

In front of @Big_John's 300 brown drop-top. This one......

I saw that you had bought that gem on the weekend when Manny @70 Sport Suburban informed me your post on Facebook displaying it to the world. GJ4 is one of my favorite colors. You surely scored!

I was hoping you might join this site since I am a fan of those cars and still have 4 left myself including the Newport joint venture that Ayilar and I have (I sold my 1971 Imperial sunroof car to a friend in Australia who proceeded to restore it completely).

The 1971 Imperial restoration was highlighted in this former post:

My 1971 Imperial Factory Sunroof 2 Door Coupe

I have one 1971 Chrysler New Yorker sunroof car myself and it too is low miles (38K I recall) and is Lemon Twist with a white vinyl top and white bucket seat interior like yours and a U code 440HP. I am the car's first titled owner since it was previously ordered and owned by a dealer owner named Phil Rauch in Burbank California who never registered it in his name and always drove it around on a dealer plate. According to his son, it was his favorite car of all time.

My other two are both Chrysler 300s - one is Tahitian Walnut and the other is Aztec Gold (a U code 440HP car).

Welcome to the site and as Ayilar mentioned, there are plenty resources here to help you with your New Yorker. By the way, does your sunroof currently work OK?
My ‘64 Coupe came from Phil Rauch in Burbank!

Guarantee that ‘71 New Yorker sunroof is more rare than the A12 ‘Bee…..

:p
I’d have to agree! A12s are my favorite but there’s 3 other green bees in my town. Not another sunroof New Yorker near by. Someone told me my New Yorker with its exact specs are along the lines of 1 of maybe 5? Very well could be BS but I do indeed believe it’s very rare
