NOT MINE 1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst - $17,999 - Chico, California

For years I wanted one of these but after joining this forum they have lost their appeal.

After commenting on this thread on Wednesday, I couldn't help myself,, so I called the seller.
He's added new pics to the CL ad, showing the engine, and mentioned when the pictures were taken, the lower trim was off the car, but it now has the lower trim on.
He did some light fiberglass patch in the trunk to cover some pin holes, and also pulled the rear window trim and has a corner section patched with fibreglass to seal a hole after an interior leak was noticed.
He has the A/C parts, but didn't put them back on after his mechanic removed it.
Don't know why the valve covers are painted corporate blue, but he did say the block is stamped F440 HP.
The fibreglass on the hood is going to need attention because he said it has been repaired once before, but the fibreglass is cracking.
I don't know why I called. I'm not buying it, but was just curious.
 
If someone here buys the 70 Hurst, I call dibs on that dual snorkel air cleaner when you replace it with the correct air cleaner.
That's the one I need, and will give you a fair price for it.:lol:
 
Question for the orignal experts. Was it common to spray the golden paint this sloppy or has it been resprayed in this area?

That's a real nice looking trunk for a fusie coupe.

This could be a real sound car that mainly needs someone to go through it and fine tune some stuff that wasn't done as well as it should have been.

Issues with the fiberglass hood and trunk lid are just a part of life with these cars.

Black painted engine suggests a bulk re-manufacturer.

Fairly nice car but a lot of pedal wear, my 1968 Fury III was approaching 300k miles with the pedal trim being worn through on the corner. (for those that care)

A few years ago I researched the hood blackout stripes for a 69 Road Runner I was restoring. In addition to finding the dimensions I also learned that inside the fenders and cowl there was no tape line. The overspray looked just like this Hurst car. So it could very well be from where the conversion was done.

I have learned over the years that the condition of the brake pedal dress-up trim doesn't tell much since I have seen either one of the lower corners of the pedal trim worn through on low mileage cars, e.g. 40K miles. It depends on how the driver typically brakes and whether they brake solely on the corners of the pedal, drive a lot in the city and possibly other factors and these are on cars where the mileage is unquestionably low. The only thing seeing a non-worn pedal says it that it is a preferable car to one that has an edge worn though but not all that meaningful overall. That trim is very thin and cheap in the Chrysler tradition of saving every single penny they can in the build of a car. Before Chrysler went bankrupt in 1980, the penny pinching that took place in the formals was beyond reasonable bounds. I was there at the time watching in disbelief as the bean counters took over. That miserable effort just hastened Chrysler's ultimate insolvency when warranty rates started to skyrocket starting with the 1974 model year cars. Even the R bodies introduced in 1979 had dismal interior and exterior trim quality where after one year in the sun, the interior plastics started to creak, crack and warp while the hot stamp chrome on interior parts flaked off or wore off immediately and the cheap extended bumper fillers looked like hell and so on.

At least when Iacocca took over he understood much more clearly the importance of quality to survival of a car company.

Actually, there are lots of them left. A much higher percent survived compared to the average car. Since they were so unusual, they were considered potential future collectibles fairly early on and many people stored them away.

Just a seat of the pants guess, there must be at least 100 of them still around.

There are approximately 252 known VIN’s. Some of those cars have now been destroyed.
I would say there are roughly 125 actual cars that are complete, roughly 50 of those are restored to one degree or another.

On original survivor cars, including my hardtop, I have seen both overspray, and masking on the fender hood area.

This car has clearly been repainted, the gold is incorrect and it’s missing the outline pinstripe in certain areas.
 
It appears from the comments that this car has had a lot of work throughout. However has solid bones and correct parts.
Since it has not sold yet I am to assume the price is too high at 18K.
With the multiple items that need correcting and the lack of originality overall would folks think the price would be more appropriate in the 12K range?

18k is more then fair for that car, is still an solid 300 Hurst.
 
Ok thanks. Still learning these C's.

Seems reasonable at 18K for what's there.
