I have a 1968 fury 318 2bbl. Pushing down on the peddle goes about 80 percent before downshifting. I'm thinking maybe 50-60% it should downshift, not sure. Any ideas how it should work.

As noted, no part-throttle kickdown on any TorqueFlite before about 1971 or 1972 model year. How I got around that was to do manual part-throttle downshifts manually on our '66 Newport 383 2bbl. Took some coordination to do it well and such, but it was easy to learn. Just a flick of the wrist at the right time with just a bit more throttle made it all happen with good results. Play around with it until it feels "right" and the engine is happy doing it.

Enjoy!

You can install a part throttle kickdown kit to your trans.
Requires dropping the valvebody though.
I have it in my 68 Newport and it really does help fuel economy, also reduces wear in the trans which extends its life.

The part throttle kickdown kit is available from A&A Transmission. It makes your car much more enjoyable to drive. I recommend it to anyone that has a 70 or earlier Torqueflight.
