Got curious if they made aftermarket parts for these. Swapping my 383 to a 4 barrel, and my air cleaner base for the 2 barrel won't work as the hole is too small (around 4 inches if I remember), while the Carter AVS is 5 1/8th.

I measured the bottom both in total and from the hole itself, in total it's around 18 inches and from the carburetor mounting hole it's around 7 1/8. It's just your regular 2 barrel air cleaner so if you have one you know what it looks like.

Looking for a stock appearance so if nothing else I won't mind hunting for an OEM one, just wondering if they make one that would fit the top and still mount on.

You can use any generic 4bbl base that fits under your old snorkel top. If there is a gap around the bottom you’ll get the added bonus of looking stock but getting the extra air flow of an unsilenced air cleaner. Happy hunting.

Damn, hadn't considered that. That actually would be a good bonus esp. since my current air filter element is very nasty. Thanks!

Thinking on an aside, I think I would need a different air cleaner stud for the top of the 4bbl - my current 2bbl one seems too loose and short for it. What's the thread size on the AVSs and the minimum height?

Shouldn’t matter. Your new carb should come with a new one. The only thing I’d worry about is putting it thru the hood when you shut it. Put a ball of clay on your new set up and see how high you can go without squishing the clay ball. That’s your safe stud height. Your dentless hood will thank you.

I got a Carter AVS from a member here who didn't use it very much, I never got an air cleaner stud with mine. Most of the ones I see usually don't.
I would assume it's the same as an Edelbrock though, since the Edelbrock seems to be based on the AVS.

With the air filter elements being the same between 2bbl and 4bbl (i.e., diameter and height and part number), the length of the stud will be the same. With no stud, a normal bolt of the correct thread pitch and length will do, too. When not tightened down, the stud can wobble a bit, which is normal.

I have a freshly powder coated air cleaner that I WAS going to use on my 77 NYB but went another route. If interested, we can Pm. I rather it go to a good home then sit on my garage shelf.
