'69 Fury III Convertible Build Thread- Project IVY

Nick great to see some movement on this thread and hoping to see more movement on this car, but I know you have many irons in many fires. :)

You definitely have new storage, now the question everyone wants to know, is there a chance it is yours??

Enjoy all your threads, but do you ever sleep?!
I sleep, when I have too.....

I wish it was mine, as it is, it's closer to home (45 minutes northeast vs 2 hours west through the city), the price is 1/3rd the cost annually (each car, which adds up quickly) and he's willing to barter when it comes to payment.

Also he's an extremely nice and genuine person who really does love and appreciate people's cars.

As a side note, the farm is called "440 Farms"

Looks like you found a nice storage place, and you had to store them there with a name like 440 Farms.

In the grand scheme of things, this year was too unstable for us to get serious about looking for our own farm, family health has been an ongoing battle it seems as everyone ages.

My hope and or plan is that next year we will get serious and hopefully find our own place. For now I can Atleast have everything together and closer to the area we are looking to buy in.

9 years ago today I bought this car, my plans have changed many times as my skillset and knowledge has expanded and as my life has changed. I bought it as a High school kid working towards being a car mechanic, today I sit here on my morning coffee break as a Licensed Car Tech and Apprentice truck and Coach tech working for the 3rd largest transit system in the world.

Last night I went and pulled my future and final plan for this cars drivetrain, a 1999 Dodge Ram 318 Magnum and 46RE A518 transmission. It has 124k Miles and I had a chance to drive the truck it came out of, it was a very healthy V8, and would still melt a tire.

Mighty fine, Nick. You got a very worthy drive train there: Factory stock fuel Injection and roller tappet cam. It will work out really well.

What, no "crate hemi"? LOL. As the saying goes "you've come a long way, kid". Good to see you continue on with this one!

I mean out of the box it's nearly 100 more net HP over the original 318 (which has been MIA for 3 decades). But I also wanted the OD, I've spent a lot of time inside these transmissions over the last year and have grown very fond of them.

In all honesty I did strongly consider going with a Gen III Hemi, Infact I could of had a lowerish mileage 5.7 for a reasonable price, the following issues I weighed and decided against.

1.) Cost, everything for The Gen III's costs more then a Magnum engine

2.) My plan since Day 1 with this car has always been a stock appearance, I want it to all look OE, even though I have made changes and improvements. It's MUCH easier to hide a Magnum and 518 as a 318/727 combo then a 5.7/5-45RFE.

3.) Simplicity, I know this drivetrain inside and out, and let's face it, once you throw out the dual plenum intake and delete the transmission cooler check valve, it's basically bulletproof.

So my overall plan is to refresh this, dress the 318 out to look like a 69 engine and run the OD Trans, which means I'll be able to run a 3.23 gear and have an amazing low buck highway drivetrain.

Nick

Glad to see you have a plan, I am very intrigued by your decision. I will enjoy watching the process, have you given much thought to the guages?

I have a connection that can help you with that. Even put GPS guts in the factory speedo

I am intrigued by this, so is this a DIY kit or do you send off your factory speedo to be converted. Nothing for me personally but I like the idea of keeping the stock gauges.
