Always liked the old Tiger Paw advertisements and I recently acquired this little gem.

It’s a printing plate but it’s made of magnesium. I was thinking of cutting out the tiger and painting it up to stick on the car somewhere. I figured it would be cool to have my FCBO emblem on my car.

Okay metal guys will this thing crumble apart. Should I cut it out paint it and stick it on with double sided tape or try to cast it in resin ? I’d rather have the metal emblem and I don’t think this old plate really has much value. Pretty sure nobody’s gonna miss it. The cat is about the size of a sunglass lense so just about the perfect size. What do you think??? Lay it on me. Thanks.

Rather than go to all of the trouble to cut it, you might get a hi-res photo made of it, touch it up via a PhotoShop-type program, and then make a waterslide decal of it IN COLOR. Put it on the quarter windows ala "SuperBee" location. Or on the front vent windows? That would also require you to "flip" one to make a rh and a lh version, though. Many of the waterslide decals can be printed on an ink jet printer, as I understand it, but might also be best if they were designed for an inside of the glass location, for durability reasons. But if you had the main file to print from, you could renew them as necessary. OR design and print your own bumper stickers!

With those two images stored, you could then design and print some personalized stationery and such, too.

Just some thoughts,

If you try to cut that with a carbide wheel & it's actually magnesium you will have a hellacious fire to contend with.

And one you can’t throw water on for that matter.

IMHO, I wouldn't cut it up. Even though it has no real value, it's still a real "one of a kind" piece that you'll never see another. Also, cutting the magnesium would have to be done by hand as it is very flammable.

Magnesium does not weather well, so if you put it on the outside of the car, it will look like crap in short time.

If you can cast it in resin, do that.

I knew guys would know. My only experience with magnesium is “don’t run those cool mags due to age they’ll kill you...” and the crankcases we burned at the dunes. I remember the sandy hamburgers and those fires looking like a welder. So I figured 1. I’d burn my house down or B. It would crumble apart. Thanks (or not LoL!) for confirming my fears.

I guess I’ll hit the hobby shop and buy the stuff to cast it in resin. If I can buy some sticky casting sand I have enough white metal 25mm tin soldiers that I can pour some metal ones. Thanks for all your help. I really want a 3D emblem instead of decals so my path is now safe and clear. I’ll report back how it goes.

Back in germany we had half a VW Factory burn down cause they stored magnesium scraps in an open container outside in the rain...

Dont mess too much with that stuff man.
