Not sure if this is the right place, but I have a 440 for sale that is currently being sheltered by a 1974 Champion motorhome. I can't tell you much, but it was running last year. If I pour gas in the carb it will run, so I'm guessing the fuel pump is bad. Asking $500, plus you remove. Trans can go with it.

Would you mind posting a few pictures please...any idea on the mileage? Accessories included?

I PM'ed you before xenon, asking about if you can tell if it has a forged crank?
And, how careful does the removal need to be?

No, I meant
"First"
I beat you to the ad

But I'm only interested if it's a forged crank

if you google 440 source harmonic dampers they show all the different ones...should be able to identify a cast crank by the balance weight cast into the damper

Hmm, look at the torque converter to make sure. It looks a bit thick to be a forged crank damper.

There is nothing wrong with a cast crank other than having to deal with the torque converter or flywheel imbalance.

Torque converter is easy, they make a flexplate with it built in to. Flywheel will require a trip to the machine shop.

The block is a far weaker link than a cast crank is.

Amen to that. I have built many 500+HP 440's with cast cranks.

Actually the only time I have seen a 440 crankshaft break was on a 70's 4x4 plow truck with a 4 groove pulley on the front of the balancer. One pulley was running a pump for the plow hydraulics. The crank broke just behind the balancer in front of the timing gear. The engine would actually still run. I bought that truck cheap :)

I would love to come over and grab it but I don't have the time.

Whoever buys it I recommend getting the 727 also. It will have the big parking brake on the tail shaft that is not desirable however the 727's used in the MH's have many good internal components that can be used to beef up any 727.
