Hello!

Just joined the forums, looking forward to participating.

I recently bought this 1974 New Yorker from the daughter of the original owner, it was garage its whole life and had been sitting since the 1990s.

I have done a lot of work to it including replacing dash bulbs, trans service, dif service, all brake components, battery, windshield wiper bushings, rebuild radiator, tires, idler arm, end links, shocks, rebuild carburetor, tune up, drop fuel tank and repair fuel sender, two window motor gears, etc.
The new idler arm already has play in it... unless it is supposed to pivot up and down where it bolts into the frame. Everything works on the car including cruise control, but the AC does not. I replaced AC components and it hold a vacuum but when I charge the low side reads high... could be the RV 2 compressor. The car rides really nice and I will be taking it on some long road trips soon.

Welcome and congrats on your new ride. The condition is fantastic!

Welcome! Congrats on your rust free New Yorker!

Idler Arm should not be bouncing up and down. Recommend you buy NORS idler arm on ebay.

You said the idler arm pivots up and down where it bolts into the frame. Unless I'm mistaken, the idler arm is held by a bolt through two ears welded to the frame passing through a bearing in the arm. Is the bolt tight, is it the correct size? You mentioned a new idler arm. Is it new, NOS or simply new to the car? Some inspection is in order. Lindsay

Welcome! Beautiful car. I always liked the front vent windows on those cars.

Did you change ALL of the rubber fuel lines? Just curious.

Enjoy!

I replaced it after the original idler had a bad ball joint. Now about 800 miles later the play is in the idler arm where the bolt passes through. The bolt is correct. The idler is from rock auto, forgot the brand.

I did, all fuel lines are replaced. Already replaced the fuel filter twice and replaced the fuel pump.

So, now, what warranty does RA offer, and will they honor it? I will be interested to know how this turns out. Lindsay

Neat gauges, so much better than idiot lights, go Chrysler.

You def need the AC working, especially in this day and age, but also to defog the windows of the behemoth faster, as AC pulls moisture from air.

I am replacing the factory speakers and repainting the dash cover. The cover was rusty. We couldn't match the color with the color matching machine so I found the closest chip we could.
