79 300 Restoration

Hood stripped, all sanded and in the booth. Gonna mask it and prime it next.

You have great looking mountains in the background Chris! I really missed seeing them when I lived back East for a while when working at Chrysler in Highland Park, Michigan in the late 60s and the 70s.

When Wyatt visited my asylum and drove through Arizona and California, he was mesmerized by them and said he had never seen such scenery as in the Southwest before.

Ok all sanded. Just have to clean it up, then mask it and paint it! Going to be a rare but desperately needed rainy weekend in the desert so it'll be Tuesday or Wednesday before I spray it.

looks like you've done this before, my first paint job around 1964, I was 16 and painted a 53 Studebaker, used a vacuum cleaner sprayer attachment and reversed the output on the cannister, decent job but that night it got cold (outside) and the whole job orange peeled. HaHaHa

Yeah, made a living doing paint and bodywork for 45 years. Definitely have done it before!

Looks great Chris! Is that the same EW1 spinnaker white that is on my 1970 Chrysler 300? Chrysler got good use out of that color if so. Was your single stage paint readily available or was any special mixing necessary to get it to match the original and what brand did you use?

My 70 is currently being fully restored and is at the body/paint shop now, so I will need to make that decision in the next month or so as well.

Mine is a triple white 300 coupe with a red pin stripe down the side, so I am looking forward to getting it done by mid next year.

I believe it is the same color Steve. I tried something different and bought it from TCP Global off of E Bay. It's a single stage acrylic urethane. Went on very nice. Reasonably priced at $224 for the gallon of paint and a quarter of hardner.

I meant to ask earlier. Why didn't you remove the front fender louvers before spraying?

I removed 4 of the 6 but the last 2 are stuck on good. I was afraid to break the plastic if I hit them too hard. Not sure if the previous owner glued them on or what .

I am pretty sure they are left- and right-handed (2 different part numbers). If installed on the correct side, then push/slide upwards to remove. If not, then push downwards to remove.

I can double-check tomorrow.

I didn't try taping down. All the ones I took off came off by tapping up. In fact none of them were hard to remove. They were actually too loose.
